I have a certified pre owned 08 Maxima and i was wondering, if i change the oil myself, will that void my warranty or something? Ive been changing the oil in all my cars for years. Dont see a point to pay someone to do something that is so simple.

Also, has anyone had any problems switching from conventional to synthetic oil? Figured it was a good time to start since this will be the first oil change since i bought the car. The car now has about 16,500miles.

At worst, you'll need to provide receipts to show that you really did change your own oil. It shouldn't be a problem, though. We've always done our own oil changes on our Nissans and never had any warranty issues. Of course, it depends on what warranty work might need to be done. If you're really worried, make sure you keep your receipts from oil and filter purchases. It's not likely you'll run into any warranty repairs related to oil changes, though.

We run Synth in our '04 (same as '08) with about 33,000 miles. You shouldn't have any issues switching over with only 16,500.

Do this and you should be fine. Please read your warranty information though, the details are in the print.

I'd keep the receipts and use a log book, or write it down in the owners manual. The only warranty issues you could run into is if the vehicle comes in with a sludged engine, then they will definitely require records of oil changes.

I have 92,000 miles and use synthetic oil with no problems.

I use royal purple oil and a Mobile1 oil filter. Check out their site.

The problem is you need LEGAL proof of the date and mileage and you cannot provide legal proof FOR YOURSELF a third party witness is required to dispute the Nissan Engineers statement that the changes were not done on time/mileage and that caused the problem.

Many people try to bring in Walmart receipts for oil/filter purchases but these don't prove the oil was used in a particular car or even actually used.

A third party receipt should include the VIN and mileage and date the work was done and a signature or method to trace who did what.

The only thing Nissan requires and some want to avoid even this minor condition of Warranty.
