I have an 07 G35 sedan. It is time for its 1st oil change. Should I let the stealership do it or should I do it?

Until last year I've always done my own maintance and repair then we bought a 07 Toyota Sequoia Limited and I was a little nervous to do maintance on a $50,000 vehicle. I did the first oil change at 1000 miles and switched it over to Mobil 1.

But then at 6,000 miles the service engine soon light came on. I did another oil change and drove it another 500 miles. Turns out Toyota doesn't want you to do your own maintance and you need a ODBII scan tool to turn the light off?

So every 6,000 miles or so I visit the Toyota dealer for a $100 oil change that I could do myself for about $27. The only benifit that I can see is less resistance to a serious warranty claim. On the other hand its a friggen Toyota nothing will go wrong in the first 200,000 miles and I'll trade it when its 3 years old anyway?

But I degress, who here services their 06-07 G35 themselves?

Thanks,

Jeff

Most people on this forum do their own maintenance...especially oil/filter changes. The G does not have to be serviced to clear any engine codes. However if you ever get one, get it scanned to make sure its not a problem.

I just use a pair of ramps and do it in the garage. Take off the plastic air damn to make life easier! Keep all receipts for warranty purposes.

Since your in AZ, I'd recommend using 10w-40 weight, synthetic oil. Royal purple is what I use and I've never had a problem in any of my vehicles.

Cool!

I'll probably do an oil change and tire rotation tomorrow.

What filter do you use with Royal Purple?

I'm pretty set on Mobil 1 cause I can buy it at Walmart in a 5 quart jug for $20 and I know that it will keep viscosity for about 16000 miles. I usually change every 6k. I drive about 60 miles a day and its mostly highway.

On my Hemi Ram I send in a sample from a 8k oil change and it was still good. GOD I used BEAT on that truck.

most stick to the oem filter...but I've always used Napa gold filters.

Thanks for the tips man, I picked up a jug of Mobile 1 5/30 and a Napa GOLD filter at lunch. My Fujita intakes will be here tomorrow too!

Should be like driving a new car tomorrow night LOL

Couple question though,

1> is there a deeper filter that will fit on the G? The filter is tiny! On my Hemi I found a bigger filter that would fit and held about twice as much oil and twice as much filtering.

2> Book says it hold 5 1/8th quarts. what would it hurt to use only 5 quarts?? On my Hemi it held 7.5 quarts and I'd always take out a quart when I went to the track to minimize crank wash and pick up a couple extra ponies.

I do the oil changes on our 2 G35's, cobra, Max (daughter's), Exploder (son's)I also use ramps, Mobil 1 Syn, and Nissan filters.I know Nissan makes a couple of different sizes for my 05, you can check with them on your 07
