i am going to attempt to do an oil change on my 98 q45 and i could not locate the filter. I have a BMW and the filter is accesible through the hood. am i missing something here, or is the filter under the car. If so, can someone give me a guide line to go by on how to change the oil in the q45. Thanks

The filter is kinda hidden to the drivers side front.Approach from bottom it may require some contortionist skill.

On my model year you have to take off the plastic cover on bottom of car first.

There is a way to come from top but you have to disconnect too mnay connectors that arent meant to be disconnected too often in a cars lifetime.

On my 99Q, it is very easy to remove the oil filter from the top. You don't even have to jack up the car to change the oil on the 99Q.

Fred, I have to check this again, but I did not have to disconnect the MAF connector. However, I have to disconnect one connector that connects to the plastic air duct that connects to the air filter box. Once that plastic air duct is out, there are plenty of room to remove the oil filter.

Heath, Just looked at the service manual, the connector that I have to remove is the intake air temperature sensor. It is not the MAF connector.

It's better to have a contact cleaner handy. Once I got a MIL (Check Engine) light after re-installing the driver side headlight. The problem stayed even after disconnecting-reconnecting the battery. I sprayed the connectors with contact cleaners and then applied electrical contact grease...problem disappeared.
