Does anyone have a write up for the 04 g35 sedan (how to change the oil?)

I want to start doing it myself. Also would it degrade the value of the car or void any warranties?

thx

Here you go!

http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread?id=289523

I've done thirty oil changes so far on my G

I use a 4 ton Craftsmen hydraulic jack and ramps

Some here use Rhino ramps that I think will allow you to drive up

on them without the need for a jack.

You'll need a 3/8 and 1/2 drive set of sockets, oil filter wrench, and a cordless drill will make things a little easier.

If you do it yourself (which I do) keep receipts of oil & filters and log when you do it with mileage and date (which I do) because Infiniti will request to see these (which they did).

I have had my engine torn into twice under warranty and they requested receipts only the first time.

I have two floor jacks, 3 sets of jack stands, but only use my Rhino Ramps for oil changes. If your car is really low, then place a 2x6 board in front of each tire (between the tire and ramp. (You can also use the 2x6 boards to elevate the front end for a floor jack too.)

Good point

I charge all my oil purchases and oil filters purchased at the dealer.

My end of year charge statement breaks down all automotive purchases so even if the receipts were to be lost my charge statements would provide proof as well.

That is very cool!!! Will have to look into doing this.

All of my filter purchases were made at my local Nissan dealer. When Infiniti asked for receipts the first time, I went to Nissan and they printed off all of my purchases for the past 3 years. After that, I decided to start keeping ALL receipts plus oil receipts.

I haven't had a chance to get under the car and 1st 2 oil changes were at the dealer (1 free, other I had no time).

But is the drain at the front of the oil pan? If so wouldn't ramps pool the oil to the back of the pan and not drain all of it? I would have though just jacking it up on the driver's side would work to push the oil to the drain side.

unless the angle is like 38* or steeper or something ridiculous, it won't matter much. the oil pan and drain pan are at a pretty decent enough angle that draining won't be an issue. A few ounces of leftover oil is nothing to cry about.

Just trying to be sure, I'll probably just use a jack stand on the driver's side anyway since I don't have low profile ramps.

Have to do my next oil change, can't afford the $66 dealer price again.

I wait until Advance auto parts puts the Mobil 1 on sale... 5qts and a M1 filter for 29.99

and they always run out of M1 so my friends... (Since I spend so much money their) up grade me to RP for the same deal... I always buy like 5 sets when it goes on sale... I have like 7 sets in inventory lol... and I use a First in first out method lol..

Oh and you can be cheap and get a 5qts and a filter from Pepboys for 10.99 why you would do that to your G?

EP.. is extended performance (still Mobil1), they guarantee it for 15k miles or 1year interval. I use it on my expedition (since we only put about 7-10K per year on it). And change it once a year...before winter comes. Doesn't burn or anything...but I'm not sure I'd want to use it on my G. Too long in between changes & too many miles.

When the time comes (the dealer's giving me a few free oil changes...) I'll use the other one they have, their advance fuel economy. Whether that actually works (improving fuel economy) or not is probably another discussion.

EP is the best M1 and It is great for the G... I only let it go for 5k or so miles...

I use EP in The GF's Jeep, Mom's Altima, and Dad's Camry...

I Use Royal Purple in My G

And I use Dyno Oil -> what ever is on sale in the Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, and FleetWood!

Will the dealership give me a hard time if I don't follow the maintenance intervals for the G since I'm still under warranty?

i wouldnt think so unless you going past the minimum maintience intervals... (i think schedule 2 is like 7000 miles, so if you going 9k and something goes wrong... they would be in the right to deny coverage) i dont think you could ever over maintience a car... something is always wearing out...

I buy one gallon Tropicana orange juice when its on sale and save the one gallon plastic containers. My G uses about 1 qt of oil every 3k miles so I just pour the used oil into the gallon Tropicana plastic jug.I then leave it on the Pep Boys garage bay entrance along with all the other containers of used oil left there. I usually have the jug in the carton that the twelve quarts of oil came in.

Just drop the used oil off at any place that does oil changes when they are closed. No hassle when they are closed.

Actually schedule 1 and 2 are at 3750 miles. But this is based on conventional oil change cycles. If I switch to synthetic and go 7500 miles between changes, will they try to use that against me?

Also, Autozone, Pepboys, Checker, etc. accept used oil, trans fluid and antifreeze(I think) for free. You simply log it in to their computer for the quantity dropped off and be on your way. Easy peasy.
