Ok, today I had my oil changed using Ester. I took it to Nissan since when I had this quoted at Infiniti it was about $200 and Nissan was about half that.

Now the question is the cost of the Nissan oil. When I first went in today they quoted me $28/qt. I previously had the cost of $12/qt. quote and told them that. They changed it based on the previous quote.

Now the question what is everyone else paying for the Nissan Ester oil?

Perry

p.s. Picked up 12 hp at the wheels and gas mileage rose to 28.5 .

The same way everyone else has who ever put on a grounding kit, changed their mufflers, or added brand x intakes. I felt it in the pants. I even got a half dozen from the aerodynamics gained by waxing the car last week.

Note this is sort of an experiment with this oil. I figure if it is better for the G37s then it may also provide some benefit to a G35, again an experiment.

The oil itself costs more than your oil change at $12/quart (or $28 for some at this Nissan dealer).

I've done 28 oil changes so far on my G all under $20.00 including oil filter.

How did you calculate your mileage?

Were you rolling down hill from the summit of Mount Ranier?

Anyone use Mobil 1 EP? stuff was only $26 for 5 Qt's at Wal mart and I'm thinking of trying it and letting dealer put the oil in for $29 labor charge.

I will not spend over $100 for an oil change.

I just had the oil changed in the sedan and spoke with the service manager about Ester oil and while he was aware of it he had never had a vehicle use it in his shop.

M1EP is used in my dads Altima, Moms Camry, Sisters Camry and Other Sisters 4runner, Gf Jeep Wrangler and My 89 Jeep Cherokee! It is great stuff

It works even better with the M1 Filter. I change the oil every 15k miles in Camrys, ALtima, and 4runner. I change it ever 7 in the Gf's Jeep, and every 3k in my Jeep. The G i will change it every 3k miles with royal purple!

Right now Im using dyno oil in the g while it brakes in. Then It gets only Royal Purple!

The $200 quote is from Infiniti Of Fife. The local Nissan dealer wanted close to that when I went in until I told them I was previously quoted $12 a quart not their $28 a quart now. What is the price of the oil at your dealer which is what I am really asking from others as well?

Frankly I believe the trend is going to be away from all of these oils since the trend is going to be towards oils in the 5wt. area for efficiency (gas mileage) there is a lot of research going on right now for reduction of parasitic loses due to oil viscosity.

You really can't do that above the 6,000 foot level.

My mileage to and from work averages 21.9 mpg. I am using this as my baseline.

One needs to calculate the true cost of an oil change. You change it to keep it clean, certain oils will go for far more miles than others. So lets say you can go 10,000 miles instead of 7500. That is an increase of 25%. So now you take the roughly $60 oil change and it becomes $75. Since oil is a contributer to gas mileage lets say that you end up gaining 1 mpg. If in my example I was getting 21.9 and now get 22.9 that is an increase of a little over 4%. So for every 10,000 miles I now can go 400+ miles for free. At $3.00 a gallon for gas that is at least $54.

Your oil change now cost around $125, about the same as the Ester oil. These are of course at this stage just play numbers but if they were to hold true then it is a break even from the oil change perspective. If you were to get these numbers then there is a reason why and that would most likely equate to less engine wear.

Perry

p.s. I plan on going the 7500 mile route, with the first change at 5000 since that will put me at about 20k miles.

if I buy the Mobil1 EP for $26 for 5 Qt's and have my infiniti dealer do the change for $29 labor(by the way prefer they do it as G37 only has 12K miles on it)that comes out to $55 before tax and with EP,can go at least 7,500 before next oil change even if they say it is good for 15k oil change interval.

Dealer is ask $10 QT just for Mobil 1 plus labor.

Yes, but the rest of the equation is missing. Is there a plus, a minus, or an equals with other parts of the equation such as mpg, wear, etc.? Not stating there is, but this is an experiment on my part to see if this Nissan oil provides any tangible benefits that could outweigh its increased cost.
