If you do a search, you will find as many opinions as there are members. Any major brand conventional oil every 5k is great. The old 3k interval went out the door with your grandfather's car. Synthetic oil is good to 10 k. My numbers are backed up by my own oil analysis submitted to labs plus my own companies research. Actually, I gave you conservative values.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and change it every 8000 miles, with a filter change around 4000.

If you do a lot of driving, it's worth every penny.

To put it simply, it doesn't matter what oil you use. It's an econocar. It will do fine with any oil as long as you change it at the right intervals and don't drive it bat s*** crazy. Conventional at 3k-5k and synthetic anywhere from 5k-10k. Plenty of cars have gone hundreds of thousands of miles on just conventional with no problems.

Mostly any oil filter should do also. I would probably stay away from Fram though. They seem to be a bit on the low quality side of filters. The filter is a little more important than the oil you use but you can't go too wrong. Wix, Purolator, Mobil 1, etc. are all just fine. Again, the filter is a little more important than the oil you use.

And to all the people who blow money putting Royal Purple or other high dollar synthetic into their Versa, my dad running SuperTech (Walmart) synthetic in his truck from 0 miles to the current 100,000 miles it has now with no leaks or burning shows that it does just fine so that's what I put in my Versa. I get 30-32 mpg city which is pretty great IMO.

Shadow, I like your sensibility. Too many people fret over the oil and "waste" money over-buying for brands such as Royal Purple. Given that most people do not even keep their cars until the wheels fall off, it even makes less sense.

dont need to change the filter every 3k. Good quality modern filters are good for the 10k; especially the Mobil1 and Amsoil filters. Another way the Jiffy Lubes of the world get people to waste money.
