No, it doesn't "NEED" synthetic oil, but it would be a better choice. The standard type oil needs to be change every 3,000mi or less. Being the minimum oil change interval on our cars is at 3,750mi, I would at least use a synthetic blend type oil. This is a little more than standard type oil changes, but not as expensive as a full synthetic oil change. The synthetic blend oil could be used as long as 5,000mi before next oil change, but I'm not so sure the oil filter will last that long.
