I would never trust a place like Jiffy lube.... if you do take it anywhere including the dealership check the oil level yourself before you drive off the property....

I let the Infiniti dealership change mine.... $50 for regular $118 for Mobil 1. Letting the dealership do it you get a 07 G35 loaner to drive while they work on your car. You get a car wash with leather treatment. You build a relationship with that dealership... just incase something breaks that could be considered a 'wear and tear' item that MAY not be warranty. The dealership goes to bat with infiniti for their customers.... good luck if you've never brought it in for service.

I'm sure someone with TECH in their user name will come back that paragraph up.

One advantage to having the dealer do it is that they have a record of work they have done, and if there is ever an issue with regard to warranty work, all the service records are in their computer. I would bet most of the people here change their own oil though, I'm rather pay to have it done.

Do a search on that here, telcoman posted some good info on oil and changing oil not too long ago.

The problem with quick lube places, including Jiffy, is their inconsistency from one store to the next. The quality of the work depends on how competent and conscientious the owner and manager are. Their pool of employees consists of the people who don't have the skills to get jobs in dealerships or good independent shops. If the owner and manager pay attention to training and supervision, their employees will do a good job. It's when they don't that you have incidents like forgetting to refill the engine with oil before driving it out the door, undertightening the drain plug so that it falls out or overtightening it so that the threads are stripped.

There are several arguments in favor of having all service performed by an Infiniti dealer during the warranty. The work is documented and serves as proof that you have met the service requirements of the warranty. If ever there is a problem, Infiniti can't avoid responsibility by claiming that it is due to a mistake by a non-Infiiniti shop. As someone else has already pointed out, loyal customers are more likely to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to questionable warranty claims. After the warranty expires, you can stick with the dealer, switch to an independent shop which may be cheaper, or do the work yourself.

GREAT FIND Telcoman!!!!

Never been to one, never will go!!!

Been changing my own oil since 1978 not because I'm cheap (well I do always think of expendures in number of 6 packs I could buy...), but because of the individuals working there........I don't know them or their abilities or inabilities.

Jiffy Lube is not the only culprit out there. A few years ago a friend of mine had his daughter take her Honda to Sears for an oil change. A few days later the drain plug fell out & the engine siezed. Sears eventually paid for a new engine but who needs this kind of aggrevation. My father in law had an oil change at a gas station over 20 years ago. They forgot to put in oil and his engine siezed on his Chevy. The station refused to own up to it and at his age he refused to take the matter any farther. He just went out & bought a new car. (Honda)

I've always changed my oil myself. Not only because I am cheap but it gets done right.

Exactly!!! Actually, I also enjoy working on my cars. And, by the time I were to take it somewhere I can have it done......and more beer money in my pocket!!!
