Hello, I'm new here.. I currently own a 06' G35 automatic. I'm due for a 7500K oil change. I have my own machanic and i'm going to buy the oil filter from the dealer tomorrow. I don't know what oil to buy. I heard is a good idea to use synthetic oil. I called the dealer and they said they don't recomend it. They said they use regular 5W30 mobil. Is this right? I thought synthetic oil is suppost to be the best? Can anyone confirm this. Thanks.

I would hold off on the synthetic for now. I believe the infiniti dealerships use penzoil 5w 30. Thats what I would go with for now along with OEM filter.

My local Infiniti dealer advised me to switch to synthetic at the first change. So, I did. I normally wait til 9k before switching though. Nice looking G!

Go right to Syn, no reason to wait. Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntech.I always find Mobil to be a touch thinner, 5w will be fine for the winter.

First off, welcome to NICO.

If you conduct a search of NICO you will find some massive threads on which oil to use and which brand is the best. There has been a lot of discussion about this over the years. Way too much info for to summarize in a post here.

Get some Amsoil

Here's a video of me changing the oil on someone's G35 using Amsoil oil & filter:

My dealer has been using Mobil 5W. Ive got about 13 k on mine and am thinking of changing to Synthetic. Does anyone know if this will cause any problems with a Turbo?

Synthetic will be the best thing you could possibly do for your engine, it will hold up much better under high temps just make sure you use a true synthetic.

Synthetic 5W-30 is your best bet with the New York climate. Royal Purple is a great, truly synthetic, oil to use.

I've heard good things about them as well. Summit Racing sells Royal Purple, so I get that out of convenience.

I use Pennzoil 5w-30 and change it myself every 3k to 3.5k miles. See thread above. I believe it is more important to change oil more frequently than 7500 mi because of what collects in your oil pan over time. ie moisture carbon and other impurities generated in an internal combustion engine. I feel synthetic oil is overpriced and too expensive to keep for 3k miles. I don't believe it is necessary if you change oil frequently and could cause problems with engine seals? This is just my opinion and there are many strong opinions on this topic on this site.Good luck whatever you decide.

I use Mobil 1 in all of my cars too.

Telcoman is right, there are a bunch of opinions on this board as to what kind of oil to use and when to change it.

I've read the "oil bible", but see it as another opinion since I've heard conflicting info. from other sources.

All of my mechanic friends use synthetic because they say it's better on the engine - less wear- more slickery .

I've also read elsewhere where it gave a V8 mustang 7 HP more by switching all oils to synthetic.

I still change my oil between 3k and 4k miles. Cost me around $28 to do it myself.

Yep, lots of opinions here, but mine is the only one that's right!!

A thanks to telcoman for that oil link. I just spent an hour and 10 minutes reading about oil and oil additives at that site. My eyes are open. Thanks again telcoman for a great link.

There is considerable debate about this, on this and other forums; however, much of the debate is largely borne from people's theories, lack of knowledge, too little knowledge but just enough to be dangerous, and not from fact based thinking (I include myself in these groups, of course).

IMHO, the solution is to educate yourself and read material by chemical and petroleum engineers, chemists and others deemed experts in the filed. You know you've got troubles when 2 distinct Infiniti dealers give you completely opposing views of synthetics! You'll find much less disagreement there since the information is based on known principles of petroleum engineering and engine mechanics.

I've used synthetic oil without adverse effects, and I've also owned many cars with mileage exceeding 300K-- all done with good ole dyno oil. Overall, the synthetics most highly rated are Amsoil (top of the line), German Castrol (also top of the line), Royal Purple, Pennzoil Platinum and a few others (my list is not exhaustive).

There is debate over whether some of these oils are true synthetics or not; however, for your purposes, synthetics have been used by many folks here on on other Infiniti models (I own a G35) without incident for a long time. For a less passioned discussion, you may want to read:http://www.carcraft.com/techar....htmlh ... am...shtml

Good Luck!

Unfortunately it is not that easy for me to accomplish this since I would have to change all my links and re-edit the original video.. too much trouble. Instead of posting the links on here, if anyone wants to watch the video they can just search for it on youtube, they will find all my other videos there as well.

At first I used synthetic so that I didn't have to change the oil so often. I drive sometimes 150 miles a day 5 days a week (which is awesome in the g ). But when I had my old car, after changing oil every 3k, I had to replace the oil pan 'cause the plug stripped at about 80k. Even though I think that was more to do with it being a POS dodge, I didn't even want to think about that with the g. Now, after doing without my beloved car for 2 mo, I baby it all that I can.
