Does the oil drain down onto X,Y, and Z, which probably includes the undercowling, during an oil change without a deflector to aim the waste oil away from whatever?I haven't changed my own oil yet, but noticed a deflector used the first time I had it done, and this time I had it done I'm getting plenty of oil in the street under the front of the car. Another design booboo?

Perhaps the *booboo* is the bonehead who changed your oil and didn't care about the mess he made.

Well - it isn't an ideal filter location, what with the plastic cowl underneath, but then again, few cars are setup for a clean/quick oil change. It's more like "where can we cram the filter" instead of "where would it be convenient?". I just took off some of the screws holding the plastic piece so I could bend it a little - only took a few minutes.

I'll probably try to design some sort of deflector before next time to make it a cleaner process - but even last time, with inevitable spillage, I still just sopped it up with a couple paper towels and was on my way.

I'd guess that Concord is right - regardless of the design, you can clean up just about any mess. Apparently whoever changed your oil didn't really care to do that, which sucks.

I believe the dealer removes the plastic splash pan before draining the oil.

remove 2 clips and like 4 10mill screws and bend it out of way.And of all the nissans thats got to be one of the most accessible filters with the least amount of mess.

That's the right way to do it. Common sense prevails again.

Wow, I guess I should have known (I sure thought about it). The service at this dealership located in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania is unbelievably bad. The mechanic who wiped the waste oil off the cowl under the engine (that was dripping for 5 days in the driveway) then gets into the car without even wiping his hands. (I think he must have used his hands to wipe the oil off without using a rag).

I had to clean his mess off the door, steering wheel, shift knob, parking brake lever, key, and even the seat. I should have gone to Wal Mart and saved $10. Won't go back to that place if the service was free for life.

Wish I could read your avatar (nevermind I just figured it out). Sounds like a take it or leave it to me. NO, you haven't experienced one of my floor rants yet. I supply them to exact the amount of pain I feel I have experienced.I take great pride in being called weird, especially by those who are warm with their correct, preinstalled mindwash, somehow I feel that doesn't fit here.I have my eye on you.

Boxcar Bill, did you buy your versa at the Nissan Dealership in Swarthmore? I was there about a month ago on a Sunday gazing around. If you did buy it there, were you able to get a good deal? If not, what Philly area dealer did you go to or could recommend? Sorry to hear about the grease monkey, had a mechanic I used to go to that would leave this horrible stench in the car everytime I took it there, it was a strong sweaty b.o.. Thanks in advance.

Oh Krice! It could have been worse, chit on everything?

I live in Idaho (bought my versa there) and am in PA visiting. The only thing I know about anything Nissan in this area is stay the f away from the above mentioned service department. They are real GOONS!

My dad just bought a 2 year old Chrysler (he paid cash though & not at a Nissan dealer). He played them for all they were worth. He says it's a buyer's market right now.

If you've got the time shop around and play one against the other. If you like something they already have in stock you should be able to negotiate a good deal.
