It takes about 5.5qts to do a complete oil change with filter on FGY33's. I usually change the oil in my car after it warms up for about 5-10mins from cold, then I put it on ramps and change out. I usually get about 5qts out. Well after returning from my 3.5hr road trip yesterday, I decided to change the oil while it was hot (first time doing this ever).

It amazed me how fast the oil drained from the pan and better yet I was able to get all 5.5qts of the old oil out! I also figured that draining while hot, you will be able to get all of the contaminants out of the engine since it will be suspended in the oil. I will make sure to always change my oil while hot from now on.

What do you guys prefer?

Hot oil.

more of it comes out which takes out more suspended particles.as recent from a drive as is possible and still have it fully drained into the pan.

Hotter the better, I usually drive 45 minutes to my buddy Frank Hill at Hill's Garage and immediately go up on the rack and let it drain- comes out fast and hot- with my trusty Sure-Fire flashlight in hand Frank and I do a quick bumper to bumper under-car look-see{found leaking tension rod and cracked steering boot last time} by then the oil has finished draining and filter is a bit cooler to tackle! For the small $15 labor Frank charges me for an oil change{I bring my own oil/filter} it is not worth doing at home, plus the Q gets a quarterly checkup and Frank gets to find worn/failing parts and create billable hours for his efforts...a win-win situation for both of us.

Gloves do not a sissy make.. lolLatex under gripper gloves do the trick and minimal wash up required.Although I do let it cool a bit before I yank the Oil Filter. As soon as the guy in the J30 forum specs out the oil filter mount change(Vertical instead of horizontal) I'll do em both hot.Shizz goes everywhere the way it is OEM.On the J30 of course.

When one endeavors to exchange previously utilized lubricants for fresh, it is first prudent to measure the ambient temperature (at the point of dispatch) of such fluids and to compare them using statistically proven and available logarithm's to charted evacuation flow rates as previously determined by scientifically accepted and germane numerical statistica. Additionally, the diameter of the evacuation orifice must be measured and entered as a variable and control. Atmospheric pressures have previously been determined to have null effect (see; Schnitzenfrits et al "flowage and what not" 200 9). Gravitational flow rates are accepted as those at sea level for the purposes of said determination for simplification and comparison.

Notwithstanding viscositational differentation as an absolute, the temperature of said evacuation is pretty much null and void except as when struck by lightning on odd days in the southern hemisphere.

Measurement of time differential between plug in vis a vis plug out is assumed to be 100 percent of actual plug in/out of dwell and can be regarded as standard.

Effective oil demonstrate and remonstrate times are habitual and absolute.

Be careful and don't burn your fingers.

Damn right!

I love my Black Lightning gloves. If you don't have 'em, I HIGHLY recommend buying a box.

Now that I think about it, I've been changing oil warm since my dad first instructed how to do it 10yrs ago. I will change hot from now on without a doubt. Oh I wear gloves too...not the special gloves listed here but just regular blue "medical" latex gloves.
