I took my car in to a local shop for an oil change and 3 weeks later noticed that it had been leaking. Not sure for how long, but there are quite a few stains on my garage floor. Here is what they said: "TECH FOUND O-RING ON OIL FILTER SEAPING,OIL FILTER TIGHT,REPLACED OIL FILTER AT NO CHARGE FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION,STILL ON THE FULL MARK".

I want to make sure that nothing else was damaged, so what should I look for if I take it elsewhere to get inspected? What sort of problems am I looking at? Also, how hard is it for a short person to change their own oil (as this is the direction I'm heading towards)?

Did you notice what brand filter they used?

Size doesn't matter when changing oil. You're on your back under the vehicle.
I use Rhino Ramps to raise the front end up so that I can get under it to change the oil.
I've taught my 17 yr old son and 20 yr old daughter to change their own oil.

I would check your oil level again. If they changed the oil filter without filling it up and then checked the level without cranking the car, then the oil would have went down when it filled up the filter.

You should take your own purchased filters. Like buy a bunch of the factory filters. I sell 4 for $28 shipped if you're curious. But its rare that the filter seal leaks. You can check the veracity of the claim by looking at the cooler area for signs of oil and the drain plug area on the pan.

buddy i hope to god they put Fully Synthetic oil back in the motor. The filter doesn't matter, however, I also hope you went to infiniti and changed the oil because its only 49.99.

If they put conventional oil in it, get it out ASAP!

It's a 5W-30 Valvoline Synthetic Blend.

Don't think they went to Infiniti since a Purolator was used.

$49.99 for a Synthetic oil change is pretty good!
Didn't realize they were so cheap at Infiniti.

I do my own oil change for around $38 (EDIT.... $29.75....)
I don't like waiting and I don't like others messing with my cars. :gapteeth:

Last time I got a change at the dealer it was almost $70 with tax and everything (but they were hand washing cars back then, not now).

I'm getting by with $24 for Mobil 1 Syn at Walmart, and $8 for OEM filter, so $32 for me.

I'd be quite angry if using my dealer where they stopped doing the free car wash.

So, I checked my car today and the level is low. I've driven almost 2k miles since getting it changed a month ago. What is the normal level for this mileage?

Should always in between the H and L on the dipstick. As I said bet they checked it before it refilled the new filter. Depending on where it is reading you probably should just go buy a quart of whatever brand/weight that was used an put in about 1/2 qt.

If needed, take a pic of where it is reading on the dipstick.

^^^what Biggie said.
Always check your oil after your car has been sitting for at leas 1/2 hour or more.
You want to give it time for the oil to settle for an accurate reading.
Also, always look at both sides of the dip stick and go with the lower of the two sides...

Dropped it back off as I felt they needed to be responsible for fixing it. Said it was 1/3 quart low. I was told "our tech forgot to compensate for after the engine is turned on". Will be checking it again later this evening, then picking a new place to get my services done. If I can afford it, I'll buy the necessary tools/gear to do it myself. Thanks for the help guys. :)
