Oil change frequencies

Well as you know I bought a Spec V last week. The owners manual says the break in period is 1250 miles. -So my first question is when should I change the oil the first time. The manual says 3700 miles, for each service. I find this a bit excessive for a car that comes with synthetic oil from the factory. Sometimes I know the dealerships will recommend changing the oil more often just because it makes them more money for the people that don't change there own oil. -Second question is, how often there after to change my oil? I would go every 5k miles on my Audi. That was with full synthetic oil as well.

The first oil change is when your done with your breakin period. After that, some people have piece of mind changing every 3000 miles, some people will wait 5k or even 10k miles. Depends on the individual. Personally, i do it every 3000 miles, which for me is once a month. Due to my job, i drive alot,and im not taking any chances with my engine.

Modern oils can easily handle 5k+. I stick to 5k, personally. 3k is just a racket for quickie lube shops and oil manufacturers to get more money out of people.

SO the First oil change at 1250 miles, or wait 3k miles. I concur about the 5k mile change. Synthetic oil was designed for longer mileage. If I was going to use conventional then yeah 3k would be more logical.
