Oil capacity

Hi folks, Great site, just joined. I have a question pertaining to a 96 Altima KA24. Just bought car and did an oil/ filter change. I added 4 qts. per owners manual and it shows overfull on dip stick by about a 1/4". I used a Purolator filter called out for this car. I have looked and compared other filters and they are all very small. Did this car have a larger filter at one time and fell victim to consolodation by the filter companies? What is the true fill that you folks have found? Thanks, again

That didnt help u. The 240sx uses 3.5 quarts. Its also a KA24DE

Yep, I c hanged the oil again about 2 weeks after I got the car and added 3.5 qts and it was a hair below full. I still don't know why the owners manual calls for 4 qts. can't be very good for the engine to run overfull all the time. :rolleyes

didnt i say it held 3.5 quarts??, anywya, who said anything bout it not being a ka24de?
