I have a s13 redtop SR. I just had a head build. Port and polish, 3 angle valve, new vavle seals. BC springs/retainers. HKS cams, GReddy RAS. We take the car to the dyno and the tuner called and said it was burning oil real bad. So i bring it home and pull the valve cover everything is good and i retighten the ARP studs. I change the oil from royal purple 5w-30 to Mobile 1 10w-40. After driving it a little i notice thaty it's not smoking neraly as much but it's still burning oil. So i do a compression test and it 140 or above across the board. So then i buy a leakdown tester and it's perfect it shows about 8% leakdown for ever cyclinder so it consistent to. I don't get it i cant find where the oil is getting into the cyclinders from. From what i was told on a brand new engine the leakdown is about 6%. So i know it's not the psitons rings. And the car drives perfect, it needas tune but the wideband shows good A/Frs on curise. And the Turbo has less then 500 miles on it. There is a recent post of a similar problem after a build with burning oil. He said it was his valve guides. The guy who did the head told me everything was nice and tight with the seals and the guides and he is one of the best head and engine buliders here in Chicago. So i guess my question is where could the oil be coming from with perfect conmpression and leakdown?? What will leak into the cyclinders while keeping a good seal? Would the guides do that?

When I first fired my built 7M, it started smoking and burning oil profusely. It ended up being the valve guides, they were re-manufactured and only lasted 10 minutes before the smoke came. Had to have the head rebuilt again with NEW guides.

Also, check the turbo. Just cause it's new doesn't mean it can't be faulty.

given what info you've presented i'd agree w/ boro. I'm no engine guru by any means but I say check the turbo for sure, that's the simplest thing i guess. As far as the guides go it is definitely a possibility, however, I know that thinking something you just had rebuilt could be the cause of your issue is a hard pill to swallow, but it could be the culprit. Good luck tho man.
