Ok, before I start I did do a search, and yielded a topic that was left unanswered. This guy's problem is VERY similer to mine, as I've reciently done head/timing chain work too.

zerothread?id=114873

Anyway, my SOHC KA burns oil once I hit 4k rpm, otherwise theres no smoke, not at idle or anything, not after sitting at a stop light then taking off, nothing. 4k it starts billowing out blue smoke.

It's not the PCV valve thing, and im running crazy thick oil with ring seal right now, and also ran 10w-30 before.

The valve cover is leaking pretty bad because the threads are stripped, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

The engine only has 75k mile, but when i got it the timing chain guides were really messed up. (replaced all that buisness).

Help is apreciated, ty.

Edit: compression before i did engine work was 150

your compression is obviously way off, 150 at operating temperature is below the limit..

A good way to test for oil burning is to first fully warm up the motor.Stand behind the car. Have someone rev the motor to 4,000 RPM and hold at that RPM for about 15 seconds. If you see a lot of blue smoke come out of the tailpipe, the motor is burning excessive oil; Time for new rings.

Alrighty guys, UPDATE!

Just recompression tested the car, 180-182 across the board... (engine was cold, does this matter?)

(keep in mind the 150 compression test results were before i did engine work...)

Did you squirt oil into the cylinders and retest?

Are you sure the blue smoke is coming out of the tailpipe and not just coming out from under the car? Thinking about the stripped valve cover bolts allowing oil to leak onto the exhaust manifold.

Any water in oil or vice versa?

Did you use new head bolts when reassembled?

yes, well, we replaced the head gasket and head bolts and i drove the car for about 20 miles, then i figured out i needed to replace the front cover, so i pulled the head again, and used the same HG and head bolts, since i already put it on we didnt do the whole torque and re torque, this shouldnt affect anything right?

Good compression test results don't always indicate that all the rings are good. The top two compression may be good but if the third oil ring is broken, then the motor will burn oil.

You might want to run a leak-down test on all the cylinders. Also check all the plugs to see if any of them are oil fouled.

My basic rule is only one mash per gasket. The bolts may be OK, but I always replace a head gasket.
