I was burning about 1 qt per 1000 miles n silly me I jus recently started noticing pior to that I was adding 1qt inbetween oil changes jus because but I hav come to realize I was burning alot more than that I jus recently added a catch can about 100 miles ago after I realized 1000 miles into my oil change I was a qt low.. so far so good catch can still empty but I can see the oil residue.. seems to be working. N no it doesn't bother me as I have a bmw 750li which the dealer told me when I bought it that it burns oil n that's normal.. so to my knowledge high power engines a known to burn oil.. I will also be adding a catch can to my bmw sometime in the near future..

I read somewhere that 1 qt/600 miles is normal consumption for the F50. Mine seems to be right around that number.

I'm not sure it's broken! I read on this forum that the F50 was designed with loose piston rings, to squeeze out more horsepower, and a result of this is the oil burn. So, what if the design takes into account the oil burn. It could be that preventing the oil burn could cause a problem.

I will be the first to admit though, this is beyond my pay grade, mechanically. LOL

Since posting the above reply... I've learned a little more of the motivation for performing the catch can mod. I'm thinking about giving this mod a try in my Q45 in the near future.

(Damn what a novice reply that was I made a few months ago LMAO)
