Hi,

I seems that there is pressure being created and pushing out the dipstick and then oil is just blowing out everywhere - had 1/2 a quart left in the engine one day! . A friend said it probably the PCV (Pressure Control Valve) which is probably jammed or clogged and not releiveing the pressure. He reccomended that I leave the main oil cap open a little to let the pressure out and it seems to be working but obviously this is a very temporary band-aid.

He looked at the engine to find the PCV and seemed overwhelmed. He thought it would be best to ask you guys where it is and how easy it is to change on this car. He said normally its a 2 minute job on other cars he's worked on.

BTW - could this problem have anything to do with my EGR Valve, which my mechanic told me is clogged up. I'm afraid to put to much money into the car at this point - I just hit 200K! I mean I love the car but it's starting to looka little tired - few scratches, nicks, rust spots - nothing major but..... What do you guys think - can it make it to 250--300K?

Thank you very muchNick

Welcome aboard Nick.

It's well worth fixing. I'd recommend a full EGR rehab (just buy a new one) as well as the PCV.

Here's the factory Service Manual - This should get you started!

The EGR issue is probably just the tubes.Very easy fix in my case.

They were clogged on the end going into the Intake Plenum

Unless the VG30 has a different EGR system vs what every other car uses it has nothing to do with crankcase ventilation.

Replace your PCV valve. If that doesn't fix the problem you have a bad piston ring.

No piston ring. The piston rings are the only thing that keep the compression in the cylinders from going into the crank case.

I'm not disagreeing with that.I merely pointed out there are two PCV valves.

i completely agree with yoda, change the PCV valves for starters (always start with the cheapest first..) , it will more than likely fix the problem (dont forget, they PCV must not be tightened harshly, you could damage your intake manifold if you tighten too much), also change the hoses that run to the PCV valves, they are most likely worn out and will not come out in one piece (they are rubber, they tend to solidify with use)....

if that doesnt work, then check your EGR valve (in the back centre of the engine, about 10" below the top of the engine from the back, circular looking thing about 3" diameter) get your hand down there (with the engine off and cold of course) and try to push the valve from the bottom upwards, if it moves, then it works, if it doesnt, then spray it with a lubricant and try again (that is just a temporary fix, if it is stuck, then it must be replaced eventually)

i hope this helps, good luck
