my 94 g20's transmission often won't go into 3rd gear, if I shift into neutral and back to D it might go go 3rd but not always.

I replaced transmission fluid few weeks back already.

What else to try next? I know nothign about AT...

i have a feeling it has something to do with vacuum since AT rely on vacuum to indicate load and determing shifting. are there special circumstances to get the car to shift into third? and from second gear, does it jump all the way to fourth?

another cause may be the TCM, but thats hardly likely.

nah it doesn't jump, I can stay in 2nd all the way up to 5k rpm constant and I don't want to rev the car higher...

the only way to get it to go to 3rd gear (maybe) is to shift to neutral and back to D or make complete stop and try again

well if this is something intermittent, i suggest taking a look at the vacuum modultor and governor on the transmission. check for any ruptures in the lines, even hairline cracks.

if you cant find it there, if you have a vacuum pump you can apply vacuum to modulator and governor and see if it shifts into the gears.

if still no success, maybe its the TCM after all.
