i hate people that pull the "racist" card whenever they don't get somethign they want. In one of my classes last term a black kid raised his hand to answer a question and the teacher called on someone else. The kid then goes, "You didn't pick me because I'm black!" and then got up and walked out of the room. Mind you though...the other student the teacher called on was black.

Any reason to get your panties in a wad is a good reason. Remember when "some" people refused to consider Condi Rice "black"? It's insane.

The whole situation with the cameras mainly boils down to making money for the city. The city could put those cameras anywhere in the city and I m pretty sure they would generate the same number of violations. The problem comes up when it is placed in a distinct community of some sort. For example, if the cameras were put up in a ritzy neighborhood the rich people there would have complained to the city saying their neighborhood was targeted because they were rich and the city was trying to make a great deal of money off of them. Damn if you do, damn if you dont on this predicament.

I agree with the majority of folks here in that we are shaping our society into a mindset of shiftlessness and irresponsibility. And all of the 'PC' nonsense is overtly melodramatic as well. Hey, I'm a short guy. Can I sue someone for not referring to me as "vertically challenged"? That way, I can fall right in with everyone else and not have to be bothered with working for the money I'd have.

I will also reiterate that my biggest beef with the whole 'pulling the race card' thing is that in only serves to make society even more callous, subsequently making it harder for people who are truly being discriminated against to be taken seriously.

Once again, I feel that people in general have their perception skewed by constantly being exposed to a 'highly visible minority' which always overshadows the less visible majority (of any particular demographic). What I mean by that is our society seems to be infatuated with negativity. I'm sure Chopp can back me up on this, but what kind of ratings would news programs have if they only covered positive stories? People like to blame the media, but just like anything else, they cater to what people want. I don't believe the majority of Black people to be thieves, crooks, and rogues. But that's what you're likely to hear about. Just like (and this should hit home on an automotive enthusiast board, such as this one) the perception that all or most cops are d1cks. People are quick to vent their frustrations about the tyranny of law enforcers, but really slow to admit when they've actually received help from such an individual (or even met one that was cool).

In the end, I whole-heartedly believe that there is still intolerance and injustice in our world today, due to the fact that there are still some very, very ignorant people harboring ridiculous prejudices. However, that fact alone should never be a 'get out of jail free' card to someone who refuses to get their sh1t together and take responsibility for their actions.

Thanks Matt. I was wondering how long our mods would leave that pic up.

As long as American society leaves the race card in the deck, it will be played where appropriate. Of course, it can be overused, just as there are times where it isnt played, but very well could be. Dont hate the player, hate the game...
