I was at the dragstrip for the first time with my new motor about 3 weeks ago. It had been pulling very well at 14 psi, for a few months, consistant 12:1 A/F ratio. I knew something was wrong when my trap speed was only 1 mph faster than on my stock turbo at 12 psi. I didnt notice when it stopped pulling hard, it may have been 3rd-4th gear, as 1st and 2nd felt like a cheetah on crack! I ran once more time and then parked it, as I had developed a misfire. I checked for codes and found a knock code. It had a loud tap every time it would misfire, sounded mechanical, coming from the head.

I figured this tap could be some sort of stuck lifter, or something having to do with the lifters, hanging a valve open slightly, causing no compression, and a misfire. I removed the lifters and had them rebuilt, as it was a good idea anyway (they're super quiet now!).

Blah blah blah... Long story short, The car developed a bit of a very random smoke, blue, like burning oil, out the exhaust. I fixed the misfire until it got a little hot again, I swapped coil packs, spark plugs, checked injectors, and all connections. I went to get on it, as I thought I had fixed the misfire, and the car started smoking again, and missing. I pulled into my buddy's garage and parked it, smoking, tired and pissed off, I went in and had myself a nap. I came back to a big puddle of oil (coming from the PCV). And there it stays...

I havent moved it since then, Havent had much time to work on it. I did however get to comp testing cyl 1-4. 135, 135, 140, 135, ***, ***.

I could have sworn my misfire was on cylinder #1, so I thought that would read low compression, perhaps a broken ring land. I'm rather suprised the compression numbers are even thus far.

I really didnt need this right now..

Any constructive comments appeciated, should be getting to cyl's 5-6 by tomorrow.

Thanks...-Max

Also what where you tuning with? it sounds like you might have been running a little to much timing and it popped a ring land, although i doubt it. That happened in my gs-r turbo a long time ago from to much timing, but then again its a honda with high compression ratio and weak *** ring lands, best of luck hopefully those last 2 cylinders come out clean.

your in eugene? let me know if you need any help with anything, and also whats your setup?

An SAFC did not cause my motor to die. Although, my timing was never actually dialed in, I could never get a proper reading, and my idle would fluctuate.

Perhaps it was my timing light, but as a safety measure, I left the CAS on the more retarded end of its travel (felt much slower like this, but I could sleep at night). Although the injectors were at a high duty cycle, they were not "maxed" out.

The SAFC is no standalone, or even a very good device for tuning, but the % correction I had was about +/- 5% and mostly never adding fuel. Does anyone know how damn rich our stock maps are? People use the SAFC as a scapegoat for many problems, but I'm sure it didnt cause this.

I'm thinking either there was a small hairline crack in a piston when I got it, and it finally let go. Or maybe I did have messed up timing.

Either way, I'll post the compression numbers after work.

I'm in phoenix AZ right now BTW, for school.

Thanks guys, -Max

135, 135, 140, 135, 150, 0

Is cylinder 6's connecting rod possible to remove by taking off the oil pan? Will the piston clear the crank shaft?

This is a pic of an rb25 bottom end, these pics are telling me no, even know the bores are like 5mm smaller or something liek that, but I doubt that will make the difference

I guess I'll be pulling my head tonight.

Damnit
