Information:----------------------------------------------------Rims - 15' six spoke Enkei (don't know model hopefully someone will know it when I post pictures)Tires - Bridgestone Potenza RE92 w/ lots of thread [195/60/15]Suspension - Stock leaving a fist large or more gap, very large gapsBrakes - Stock----------------------------------------------------

I took her out today and it was wet outside. I warmed her up then drove down the road. At the intersection I hit the gas and to my surprise was drifting... while I still keep a fairy good control on the car. The intersection was empty and was large so there was no danger.

Also 5 mintues after that the tires warmed up and I still skid. Going down a light hill at 40MPH I braked and it the car skid slightly.

Does this happen to everyone in the rain or should I look at finding the problem in the car?

Thanks

Wow this post is retarded in more ways than I can think. First, if you want anybody to reply to this JDM TYTE DRIFTING post you're going to have to give details like what kind of tires you're running and their sizes, what suspension modifications you've made etc...

Take some driving lessons when you get the money.

Sounds like human error. What kind of tires are you using? I found out the first time I drove my S13 in the rain that these cars HAVE to have decent tires. My car came with worn out eagles and the back end would break loose in the rain with barely any throttle. Also, take it easy in the rain, I'd cry if a 18k mile 240 was lost.

its general knowledge that our cars with a stock diff are very happy in the rear. also know that the rain may have not washed off the oils on the road so no matter what tire u had, u couldve still been fishtailing. do be careful as altho the car does feel stable, there is a breaking point. i would definitely be a tad bit more safe on the road. it would b different had u had done that on purpose but when ur not the cause of it, thats when things arent right.

Get a set of Falken Ziex.

They are very good in the rain. I can't break loose going into second at 2500 rpm anymore.

But seriously, doing that kind of stuff on a major road is pretty dangerous, if you find yourself skidding you should probably let off the gas and get going on the corrective steering, not "try to keep it going".

RE92's are some of the worst tires I've ever encountered. Had them on my WRX and I HATED them.

Sounds like you need to modulate the gas pedal.

So half say the tires are horrible which would not shock me seeing as I skidded when I braked on the light hill. However they grip well on dry surface. Looks like the engine mods will have to wait and new tires/rims will take most importance.

Also I must say everyone's concern for my safety is... cool, shows you guys are true friends and truly concerned for fellow Nissan owners. But I must say I in no way felt in danger and was by fair not going fast at all and afterwards took it much slower especially on the highway.

Here is some information about the tires, turns out they are all season performance... but reviews on sites like tirerack.com flame the tires as horrible for rain driving...

====================

"The Potenza RE92 is a High Performance All-Season tire designed for sports coupes and sports sedans. It was developed to provide responsive handling and year round traction, even in light snow.

On the outside, the Potenza RE92 features a computer-enhanced tread design to minimize tread noise while interlocking triangulated tread blocks, circumferential tread grooves and an all-season tread compound provide traction on dry, wet and light snow-covered roads. Internally, the Potenza RE92 features twin steel belts reinforced by spiral-wrapped nylon belt edge strips (for H-speed rated sizes) or a full spiral-wrapped cap ply along with single belt edge strips (for V-speed rated sizes). The Potenza RE92 belt package stabilizes the tread area to enhance wear, while providing strength for cut protection and high-speed capability. The Potenza RE92 radial’s polyester cord body help deliver a smooth ride along with responsive handling.

Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires feature black sidewall styling with subtle black letters They are S-, H- or V-speed rated depending upon their application and available in 70-, 65-, 60- and 55-series sizes for 13" through 17" wheel diameters."

Couple things here....

1.) RE92's are TERRIBLE wet-weather tires. How do I know this? They're standard-factory on WRX's, and I used to own one. I think that they're SO bad that they border on flat-out unsafe, especially on slush (almost killed me once). For just this reason, I have a set of RE92's on my spare set of SE rims, because they let me play with the traction due to their suckiness. You can get almost brand-new RE92's almost for free over on NASIOC, because many people replace them almost immediately.

2.) Car control, car control, car control. A precise hand, even with RE92's, is a sure way to avoid unwanted oversteer (or unwanted anything-else, for that matter). Pedal inputs should be silky-smooth, shifts should be positively imperceptible except by sound, etc...

They are horrible tires. I had them on my 2001 maxima rims and the were worst of the worse. I ended up replacing them because even with 40% tread left highway driving was pretty scary, hydroplaning was scaring the crap out of me.

You need much wider (7 inch +... 8s are nice) sticky tires... 240s love to wag their *** in the rain with sucky tires (I put my sucky tires on when I want to "drift")

Get used to driving carefully in the rain. No car or tire is the same on wet pavement as it is on dry pavement - especially 240's. Anyone who has NEVER spun their 240 around in the rain please raise your hand. (notice the lack of raised hands)

not in a 240, but in my s13 silvia, with dunlop direzzas, i never lost control in rain (and thats on the slickass coral/asphalt crap they pave the roads with over there) 7 wide in front, 8 in back

i recommend the dunlops, ive had nothing but good experience with them... theyre a medium compound, a little sticky, but hard enough to last for awhile

i cant raise my hand. spun twice on stock sized 195/60/15 general tires..........they suck but the tread never dies. i drove it for two years and my dad drove it for 2 years and i swear the tread looked brand new. lol. anyways, i was young and being an idiot so 60mph on a highway exit turn roundabout with a posted 25 mph with light rain on the road landed me in the center of the grassy field with stock suspension..............i held the turn for about ten seconds before the back came out too far
