I stumbled across this site today and noticed a lot of you have a lot of knowledge and great members, unfortunately I don’t own a Nissan, but hoping you guys would be able to help me out with modding my car. I own a Mazdaspeed3 and haven’t done much to it. Just gutted it, dropped it, wide body, and tuned to run on e85.

No, totally f*** with ya’ll. I’m a former Learned’d member. How have you all been? :mike <- I’ve missed that Jersey Shore emote lol

Sup Tito! You miss me, broham? I see you’ve been busy with a garden and you have a truck now. You ever get around to finishing your Z? I can’t remember what you were planning on putting into it, but I know it was going to be a 6 cylinder.

of course i miss you, brotein shake. garden is dead until next spring, on explorer #2, and the z hasn't seen much action in a long time. life has a way of making sure you don't do the things you enjoy in favor of more "responsible" activities.

That’s usually how life goes, brotato. Otherwise life can get boring if it’s always going the way you want it to. Always about the journey and never the end result because we all die. I get where you’re coming from though. The 3 I was in last I was on was toyaled last month. Someone decided to run a red light and introduce our cars. Maybe he thought they would become best friends or something. Got payments again after living 2 years without them. :( Its for a vehicle I really wanted to, though. So, I guess it’s cool?

Gonna change up the vegetables next growing season? I could use a few Carolina Reapers ;)

idk about reapers, but some type of chili pepper for sure. want to give cucumbers a go, keep the tomatoes, definitely basil. maybe just keep it at that for next season.

i feel you about the car note thing, but just like you, it's for a car i really wanted. going to start setting aside a couple dollars here and there, after the holidays, to put towards a tune.

I think Aud demoted himself haha.
I recall he actually banned himself one time, and I think it took Greg to actually unban him.

Things are going OK here, I got rid of my '91 S13 a while back, but put the engine in my '93 truck. I got rid of my Prelude (with 320k on it) about 2 weeks ago and picked up a 2013 Focus ST. Been having some good times with the Vette too. Couple days at the dragon, went to Gridlife South and raced on Road Atlanta, got a track day at Barber coming up in a few weeks.

Dragon? Gridlife? Road Atlanta? What are these things now? Racing? Car meets? Dope at the Skip Barber track. I’m guessing lessons?

Focus ST is the little brother to the MS3, isn’t it? How do you like that? I hear they do incredibly well with mods like the MS3 does, if not better. Any mods so far?

Yeah, all racing and/or NICO events and/or just fun as f*** roads.

And yeah, the ST I believe basically shares the chassis with the MS3, but the suspension and engine are a bit different.
No mods yet... I'll probably start off small and just replace some of the lights with LEDs, fix some of the god awful rattles in it, and then try to do something to mitigate the torque steer.
The turning radius sucks a** crack too.

I’m not sure how much the car shares with the MS3, but if the mounts are the same, JBR and Damond make great ones and gives a package deal. You’ll gain a lot of NVH as a result, but they supposedly die out. JBR I believe barely does, along with TRZ ones. I bring that up because the rear motor mount in my car was the source of a lot of torque steer, as well as a lot of failures for all 3 stock mounts being a regular thing. After upgrading my rear motor mount (RMM), a lot of it disappeared. I don’t beat on my car like a lot do and at 80k miles I see no signs of needing to upgrade the other two. Hopefully I’ll never have to.

I read into the car a little bit and I saw the stock turbo can handle 400hp and people regularly get around there with bolt ons and a tune for e85. Of course, you gotta research it yourself to verify. I was just skimming. Very strong power plant. The MS3 uses the K04 turbo and that starts to crap out at around 300hp. If I research more, I will go with a BNR S3 when my turbo finally kicks rocks. If I can get away with it of course. I have to wrestle with CARB and the TIP needs to be slightly larger to fit onto the S3. If not, I’ll go with an S1 instead. I could go S2, but that’s just a poor choice for spending cash.

Oh. Invest in walnut blasting and getting to know your intake valves. If you’re direct injection, you’ll be removing carbon around every 20-30k miles. I need to do mine, but I’m scared lol. Oh, and broke. Being a college student, I barely have enough cash to breathe.

Yeah direct injection freaks me the f*** out for stuff like that. I'll have to do it to my vette too. I might just try seafoaming more often.
I often think "I should just crank the f*** out of the boost and add meth injection... that'll clean s*** right up".

The previous owner of mine said he replaced one of the motor mounts with one from the Focus EV... said it was a fairly common preventative maintenance mod. I never even looked into it, but I need to.

Seafoam actually doesn’t do anything because again it’s not going over the valves and it’s completely caked on. It’s a fairly easy thing to do for those who have experience and the equipment, but for people like myself who have never done a lot to cars it’s daunting. Maybe I don’t understand how Seafoam works, but I’ve read multiple MS3 owners doing it and got zero results. I don’t know how meth works either, but if it’s not entering through the throttle, it’s not reaching the valves.

As for the motor mount, it sounds like he might have replaced it with the electric Focus’s motor mount. I dunno how I feel about that one. If you’re not abusing your car I think it’ll be fine, but if you’re upping power I might go for something more solid.

yeah the seafoam and/or meth would be applied through the throttle.
Seafoam makes an aerosol version now with a straw that you can just sneak in at the throttle body coupler.

the late 2014 models (what i have) got the e-focus rmm stock, as well as front brakes from the escape. funny you mention torque steer, i don't find it to be all that bad.

Mine torque steers like a mofo. I don't recall Sheet's ST as having this much either, but I can't quite remember that far back. I wouldn't mind driving another one soon just to see how it compares.
