its tomorrow am having my car taken to the dealer ship to check out. i pray, lord knows i am praying that the dealership dont scare me with some outrageous repairs i have to do.

and by the way, is there any danger in driving the car in sports mode all the time??? maybe that may stop the car from hesitating.

the thing i noticed is that the car hesitates less when I let it warm up for a long time (10 - 15minutes). i dont know if this is normal. i really really love this car but god help me with the possible repairs

Don't let them go ahead with repairs until you run their estimate by the brethren here. What kind of car and mileage?

Then there is no "sport mode."

Also, he and you can complete the Car: information in your profile. :asmile

"scare me with some outrageous repairs i have to do."

You mean from your [or previous owners] abuse and neglect......or bad designs?

If you get your oil changed at dealer every 90 days most try to break it to you gently [if possible] and create a plan of action.

I hear many dealers are retainning physicans and nurses [many have defibs on site] to be on hand in case of owner complications........I always thought a dealership would be a good place to sell 2nd and 3rd mortages.

Trust me, I get the joke - but this just highlights the need for members to go into their profile and put their car, location, mileage, etc! Saves a lot of repeated Q&A.

LOL - Never mind Dennis, he's just yanking your chain.

Get the dealerships FULL list of needed repairs, bring them back here, and the experts will walk you through it all. My guess is that HALF of what they advise will be unnecessary, 1/4 is DIY, and the other 1/4 can be done elsewhere with a BIG discount on parts.

The dealerships have all the work they can handle now with sales increases [prepping the G35/FX] and dealing with their teething problems.

I have never heard or seen a certified factory tech list things wrong that were not there...[ethics is taught as part of certification].....most have too much pride to try to screw owners out of money. If anything they skip things that should be written down to warn customers........the problem is the translation from tech to service writer who has to sell you. The service writer skips things otherwise you would run away screaming.Sure the techs can make a mistake, missing something simple but it is rare.

Most dealerships skip shocks unless they are LEAKING.

WHAT joke? with our average ticket [both Lexus and Infiniti togther] running $355 now and some as high as $5500 for a single visit. We do lots of "just change the oil please and don't tell me about anything else".............been a while since a few people paid with piggy bank change.

Most Q get a $3,000 write up [from the tech which gets diluted [triage] by the service writer] to something based on the look of the customer and the cars appearance..........even T3 breaks it to you gently...........which has been a source of compliants.

The techs get tired of writing down things they know won't get fixed........we keep records and some people have had the same problems pointed out for years till they finally have a more serious destrictive failure [ water pump, wreck from ABS leaks, engine, transmission failure].

You would be surprised at the deferred things that are not functioning...........how many cars are driven without AC or the owner keeps a gallon of PS or brake fluid in the trunk. Duct tape holding windows up or keeping the glove box or visors in place.

Everyone wants us to lie and tell them everything is ok, that they made a great decision on buying a car without an inspection.......

Thanks mane. you made me feel a whole lot better. now am sh!tting in my pants.

but let me properly list the symptoms I'm having.

I dont know if this is cold weather related but when I start the car up in cold weather to warm it up, it makes wierd noises for a about 15 seconds then it stops and the sound becomes smooth. when i shut it off and turn back up later, it doesn't make the wierd noises any more

also, I rarely drove luxury cars so I dont know if this is normal but when I drive, sometimes it hesistates. people talk about gears but this car is automatic and I dont know if its supposed to skip once in a while when it is shifting gears.

also, in the glove box of the car there were receipts of auto shop the infiniti was taken to. I called that shop and asked them to tell me what they found wrong with the car last time it was brought there which was at 160,000. they said everything was fine and that the only thing they did, like it stated on the receipt, was install R/S Tie Rod End. fyi, the car is almost at 173,000 miles

truest,

the noise you hear on startup is normal, i think. kinda a higher pitched whine??? i believe its the transmission. mine does the same. take the hitman's advice. really think through the repairs that are recommended from the dealership. we have access to very reasonable parts with joe, much better than the dealership! i know vanmeter might be a bit of a drive for you, but will save you a lot of money, and you'll know it will be done right. i'm taking my Q to him for the plenum very soon.

i'm thinking of having the dealership fix the most important thing that they feel needs to be done on the car. the rest am definitely taking over to keith. he's about almost 90 miles from where I live.

T - Don't let them fix ANYTHING until you come back here and list what they said.

Seriously, man - I agree with Dennis, but the things the dealership says are a priority and the things an enthusiast sees as a priority are sometimes very different.

Trust me - There's well over 300 years of Q45 ownership experience here.

Knock on wood, no noises on startup here, either. But I have had other cars with OHC's that did. Unless as others have said, it's transmission issues.

LOL at Dennis' & Truest's posts.

i thought someone else chimed in on that whine at startup on extrememly cold mornings,,,it's been in the single digits around here for the last couple weeks. the torque converter maybe???? anyway, thought it was a harmless condition. my trans has been flushed and the filter changed within the last year. the fluid is red, and shifts fine. i feel a proper warmup is crucial!!!!

I think different people have certain sensitivities to transmission/torque convertor whine. I can hear it a mile away. I can even pin-point it when the car is warm. I think it's completely normal. All three transmissions I've had on "Q1" and the one on "Q2" make that same whine. I describe the sound as similar to a Furd P/S pump.

right heath,,,,it's just louder when its brutally cold. incrementally gets softer as it warms up. on these 0-5 degree days, can be pretty loud for 30 seconds to a minute, then dies down. i'm sure its very bad for the trans to just take off on startup on these cold days! don't do it!

The cold whine is the load that cold thick ATF places on the transmission pump. Worn pump seals tend to make louder longer noise. Overheating warps wears seals........including the pump seals.

It's bad in the sense not optimium for life to load the transmission till the ATF gets up to 100F.........people won't wait 5-10 minutes so they get to live with the consequences.

Using a premium grade ATF [synthetic base vs petro hydrocracked base] will flow slightly better at cold temperatures ..... be less stressful.

I don't move my J until I get one fan blade showing on the climate control display. Then it's no RPM over 2k until the climate control kicks on multiple blades. Really glad I switched to 0/30 Mobil One. Tonight, it took almost 10 minutes for the TC to kick in. Chilly 'round these parts lately. My garage is insulated and between the wife's car and mine the temperature inside the garage is 10-15 degrees warmer than outside in the morning from the heat of the engine blocks. Wish I had a block heater.

I tell you, I just cringe when I see people get in their cars start and leave in a hurry when it's -5F.

I'll tell you, it suprises me that after about a century of car invention, an engineer or should i say a group of engineers haven't been smart enough to make a car that wouldn't require a driver to have to wait in any kind of weather for the damn car to warm up.

i mean, if actually spending 50 grand on a car, damn it, I want to live and ride in pure and i repeat, pure luxury. i shouldn't have to have any patience. not that am rich but rich people shouldn't have to have patience. no. just in get the car and drive off with no consequences. thats the way it shold be.

i tell you, someday in the near future, if none of these engineers get the idea, I'll make that happen and make a lot of money. save this thread because when I make money off of this, I will refer to it.

You really think paying $50k entitles you to such a car? There isn't a single aspect of automobile manufacturing that isn't vastly better than it was 80 years ago, from machining to metallurgy to assembly. You would probably make more money inventing new materials from which such a car would have to be made. Invent an alloy (or discover a new element) that has all the material characteristics of carbon steel at 200*F but at all possible operating temperatures and at the same cost or cheaper.

oh, trust me, my friend, trust me, it is possible. i get pissed each time i think of this. yes, $50,000 does entitle me to a car like that. yes it does. $50, 000 is not chicken chicken. regardless of how you see it. even multi-skillionaires will not drop $50,000 on something unless whatever that thing is worth it.

see, as much as people look down on Africa, the continent has sh1tloads of natural things that can be of major advantage in my quest to invent this new thing. i know this because i've lived there. all I need is the money and this is done.
