I, or someone else may have mentioned or gone over this already but, I swapped a CA18det into an '89 Sohc... I live in Az and need (not want) NEED a/c. I still have the expensive old (colder) freon, and after checking the bolts seemed to line up....low and behold THEY DO!!! ...and it works!...there is one catch...the pulley is about a 1/4 inch shorter on the SOHC compressor than on the CA. I baisically sanded the one side down and delt with the noise until the belt wore itself in...but it works!..and without any additional cost. I'll post pictures this weekend.

I'd like more info on this too. I live in Kansas and A/C is pretty much a must here too. (Maybe I'm just a wuss)

Keep in mind, that slight difference on the pulleys creates a musical pulley system until I drove about 50-75miles and it wore in. Also, I had to take the paint stripper wheel on my drill and actually wear down the contact side while the car was running. - Its not supposed to work but it does....HA!

maybe you could take the "modified" belt into autozone napa or advance and have them match it up with one that is the right size (ie, a little thinner than the stock one) so then you wouldn't have to ghetto sand it.

Are you saying you sanded down the contact (ribbed) part of the belt, or some part of the pulley on the compressor?
