It is a 1985 nissan maxima with a V6.

It has sat for the last 6 years without being turned on at all.

I am now in the process of trying to start the car and get it running again.. When it was parked,it was running great. The problem with it is that the transmission blew.

When the car was parked, it was very low on fuel.

Fast forward to today.

I have checked the oil level, it is fine, I also checked the radiator fluid and it is fine as well.

we put about 5 gallons of gas into the car (half 87 and half 91 octane). I cleaned out the engine compartment, etc. We got a brand new 850 cranking amp battery for it today.

I took the air filter out and there really wasn't any blockage or anything.

Tried cranking the car and it cranks fine, no problems.

We then tried spraying some starting fluid in the intake, it fires up and starts to idle (i know that ether isn't the best, but I just want to get this car running). If i keep spraying small shots of ether into the system, it does idle.

We then dumped some B12 Chem Tool and some Iso-Heet into the gas tank.

We then started it again using the ether. After a short bit, it started to barely idle on its own. It appears to be idling at around 200/300 rpms and the second i give it any gas, it dies.

I really need to know where to go with this as I really want to get the engine running before i attempt to replace the transmission. Any ideas??

Thanks,-Spilk

The gas that was in the tank was certainly bad...adding good gas to it may not be enough. The bad gas in the fuel system has separated out, and the low-volatile "sludge" might be clogging the system. Is it fuel injected? The pump may even be clogged too. Be prepared to drain the gas, clean/replace the injectors, and check the fuel pressure.

awww guy you might be in luck. your fuel injectors and the rails may be able to be replaced absolutly free. if you havent had the fuel injector campaign performed yet. it replaces all injectors the supply line from the filter to the rail and if the fuel line below the fuel filter and the return line from the rail are bad ;) they will replace those too. also if the connectors near the intake plentuim are damaged they replace those too. there was one catch but some dealers will let it go if you aggree not to hold them responsible for weather it runs when their done. the catch was it had to be running when it came in. also it cant be a salvage title. the easiest way i could tell you to determine if its been done is to look where the fuel lines from the injectors hook to the fuel pressure regulator. the clamps that hold the hoses on are the pinch type(you remove and install them with pliers)those where put on during the campaign. if they are a phillips head then your campaign has most likely not been done.
