I just heard about this about 10 mins ago from my brother on the phone. I can't believe this. I'm seriously speechless and sickened from this.

"As horrified travelers watched, a Greyhound Canada bus passenger repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated the young man sitting beside him, who was sleeping with his head leaning against the window, a witness said Thursday.Police officers and cars surround the bus near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on Wednesday night.

Police officers and cars surround the bus near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on Wednesday night.

"There was a blood-curdling scream. I was just reading my book, and all of a sudden I heard it," said Garnet Caton, who was sitting in front of the two men.

"It was like something between a dog howling and a baby crying, I guess you could say. I don't think it will leave me for a while."

Caton said he shouted at the other passengers, many of whom also were sleeping, to leave. Video Watch Caton describe what he saw »

"Everybody got off the bus. Me and a trucker that stopped and the Greyhound driver ran up to the door to maybe see if the guy was still alive or we could help or something like that," Caton told CNN.

"And when we all got up, we saw that the guy was cutting off the guy's head. ... When he saw us, he came back to the front of the bus, told the driver to shut the door. He pressed the button and the door shut, but it didn't shut in time, and the guy was able to get his knife out and take a swipe at us," Caton said.

The incident happened late Wednesday west of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, but a standoff between the attacker and police lasted into early Thursday.

The bus was traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was about 45 minutes from its destination when the attack occurred, said Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh in Dallas, Texas.

Witnesses told Canadian TV that the attacker was wielding a butcher-type knife. They said the trucker who stopped provided wrenches and crowbars to several of the men, who were able to keep the suspect on the bus until police came. After the standoff, police took the man into custody.

Wambaugh declined to comment further, except to "confirm that there was an incident on one of our buses."

"I don't want to compromise the investigation," she told CNN.

The incident occurred on the first of two Greyhound Canada buses that were traveling together, she said. The bus was carrying 37 passengers. As many passengers as possible among those not directly involved in the incident were transferred to the second bus, she said.advertisement

Others were taken to a hotel in Brandon, where they were met by Greyhound managers and police, Wambaugh said.

Once they are released, Greyhound will take them by bus to Winnipeg, and "we will do whatever is required to help them -- and that includes counseling," she added."

Yup... the only thing to date the accused has said is "kill me" nothing else.

When they emptied his pockets they found and ear, finger and part of a mouth. He was also eating part of the victims body.

The guy is a certified sicko..

Oh god... I just can't understand what could possess someone to do something like this. You know, even in my angriest moment with someone... I could never see myself EVER getting to the point to where I would ACTUALLY take someones life. (Not counting defending my family or myself that is. But I'm sure we'd all agree that's not the same thing.)

This is one reason why we should not make hastee in eliminating the death penalty---it still has its uses.

Telcoman:

Can you ask them or organize a special interest group to pressure the officials in New Jersey, to bring back the death penalty there?

The death penalty for a case like this or even most is too easy for them. I'd much rather have them sit in a 4x4 cell with no windows for the rest of their life..

Sorry Jacko, I'm opposed to the death penalty. Its been misused too often. Check out the innocence project.

There is still some doubt here in NJ over the Lindbergh kidnapping?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindbergh_kidnapping

Bruno Hauptman although not an alter boy may have been set up and ultimately executed?

This guy in this case needs to be put away for the rest of his life but there are professionals that specialize in studying criminals and wacko's in an attempt to learn why they commit these horrible crimes. What is it in the brains of people like that that cause them to do these things?INMHO its worth keeping them alive to try and find out.

Obviously, the perpetrator is massively deranged. His future is to spend the rest of his life in a high security psychiatric facility.

The attack could have been terminated promptly if one of the other passengers had been armed. Most American states permit concealed carry by properly licensed civilians. However, this was Canada where they are more afraid of normal people with guns than than they are of psychotics.

John Douglas is one of the FBI agents who began the study of serial killers. After retiring, he wrote his memoirs. Title of the book is Mind Hunter. If you read it late at night, it is comforting to have a loaded gun within reach.

Yeah bro. It's pretty messed up. I had a friend go psycho and kill another friend a chop him up. It was not an easy thing to deal with.

This was my friend's crime. He's serving life with no chance of parole.

I wouldn't waste any money on them. Not more then the execution cost.

He asked for it too.

Anybody knows how much it cost to keep one lifetimer for a year? I know I have read it somewhere just can't find it. Too much money.

When I was younger, I rode Grayhound from upstate NY to Conn...I remember thinking that there are very weird people in this world.

Now I realize that most of them have severe mental issues such as schizophrenia and delusion. In fact, most homeless people suffer from various mental illnesses. Our Country just doesn't know what to do with these people.
