I have a set of Tein HA's and my stock +40 offset wheels do not clear the coilovers (they rub). Does anyone know what offset I would need on a 16x7 in. wheel to clear these? A 1/4" spacer fixes the problem but I am not going to use them since I will buy new wheels.

imma do this mathematically, follow allong kids! (god, please let me do this rigt, and not get flamed for being a mathmatical moron)

you have a 40mm wheel offset wheel, and it rubs, therefore, you need to reduct the offset to stop the rubbing.

if a 1/4" spacer fixes the problem, then:.25" x 25.4(millimiters in a inch) gives you 6.35 millimiters;(.25*25.4=6.35) Taking 6.35mm from your wheel offset will fix the problem(since this is effectively what spacers do)40mm-6.35mm= 33.65mm. I'd but a 32 or 35mm just to be safe .

depents on what size and how wide you want, I have 17x8 with 35 offset still rubs the Tein wheels even with 5mm spacer!

well, thats because of the etra inch of width, I did the calculation for a 7" diameter wheel...

anyways, I spend most of my time doing this crap ay my work anyway, test fitting tires/wheels and stuff.
