Wow, how time flies! It's down to the wire again for our Nico Vert Calendar. My sincere apologies for not getting on this sooner, but I've been EXTREMELY busy this year with a new job, my run-down house, and dealing with all sorts of miscellaneous circumstances.
Once again, I need everyone’s help to get our 2011 NiCO Vert Calendar together! First things first, we need pictures for the monthly features!
I want everyone to submit the best pictures of your car in this thread (resized to 800x600). However, official submissions must be emailed to
[email protected] - if you don't, your submission will not count.
Now it's time for the rules. Review them carefully:
1. This is for members of our forum only. If the car belongs to someone and they aren’t a member here, it won’t be accepted.
2. If your car was featured in either the 2009 or 2010 calendar, please don't submit again. Be gracious and let someone else share in the spotlight for this year's features. If you submitted in the past but haven't made it in yet, KEEP TRYING! We have a lot of great cars here!
3. Pictures need to be as large as possible and have the highest resolution possible. The bottom line is we’re not going to print crappy pictures – no matter how awesome the car might be. Quality pictures are paramount.
4. You must use your own pictures or have permission from the photographer to use their picture of your car.
5. No large watermarks or tags. If you’re using a picture taken by a professional photographer or something along those lines (including copyrighted material), please ask that they use a smaller tag. We don’t mind them taking credit for their excellent pictures, but this isn't a free advertisement for Joe Cameraman.
6. All submissions must be posted and received by SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2010 at 11:59.59pm EST. Anything after that will be excluded from the running. Do not submit pictures if you do not have large, high resolution versions of the pictures you are submitting. I do not want the process to be delayed because we have pictures that won’t work. Again, we want this to look good.
7. After a submission has been made in this thread, you MUST send the large, high-res pictures to
[email protected]. If they are not received by SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2010 at 11:59.59 EST you will be excluded. I am not going to send email reminders or multiple posts asking for your official submission. If your official submission does not meet the size and clarity requirements, I will not send 20 emails asking for better pictures.
8. Minimum size for pictures sent to me are 8.5"x11" at 200dpi (1700x2200 pixel). If they're smaller than this, the picture is going to look crappy and will not be used. Remember, we want quality photographs.
I think that should cover everything as far as rules. Now here’s what I need with each submission:
1. Three of the most excellent pictures of your vert. Pick three pictures that best convey your car’s purpose and what you’ve done to make your car unique. For example, if you race your vert, get a shot of it in action for the main picture, then maybe a shot from building the car as well as a picture of your engine bay or something like that. If you’re into style and stereo, get a picture of your car hardparking as well as a picture of your sound system and then maybe a picture of your car cruising. If you have no idea what to submit, just submit 5-6 pictures and my editorial team will pick something for you. Cars do not need to be modified to be in the running. We've featured bone stock cars in the past calendars because they look great when you get a quality picture sent in.
2. Provide your personal information: Name, Nico ID, City, State, and Country (for our friends outside the US). Also, if you have a preference for which month you'd like your car to be featured, let me know. Month preferences are first come first served.
Once the submission period comes to a close, we will take 2 WEEKS to let everyone vote for the top 12 cars to be used as the monthly features. I'll make a new thread once it's time to start voting with details on how that will work.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding submissions or the calendar in general, please post in here. I don't have regular internet access, but I'll try to answer any questions as soon as I possibly can.
Lastly, some tips for taking good car pictures:
http://www.hymanltd.com/photographing_classic_cars.htm
This is my $.02 to add:
1. Get the entire car in the shot.
2. Make sure the focus is right so your photos turn out crisp and clear.
3. Do not take pictures towards your light source - shadows do not look good in the foreground! Keep the light to your back when you're taking pictures.
4. If you're going to tun your wheels, don't point the tread pattern right at the camera. Show more wheel, less tire.
If you want more tips, google is your friend.
Thanks to everyone in advance for their help and cooperation!
