Yes, the Laurel looks quite a bit like early Maximas. However there are some major differences, like the lack of B-pillar.

The Laurel is rear drive and RB powered, where the Maxima is front drive with I beleive an L28E and later the VG30E.

Maxima is/is not made in Japan. Just like nearly every american model, it goes by a different name and has different looks. While here in the U.S., you can only get one Maxima, with one engine (good enough for me) in other countries there are many models with many engine variants, and since there is no Infiniti outside the U.S. the Maxima looks like the I30/I35. For instance, the Maxima QX in Europe has a VQ25DE and looks just like our I35, save for a few minor badging changes and things like that.

I beleive the earlier Maximas were Cefiros (in Japan). I could be wrong. I can never keep the Japanese names straight.

link NICO in your cardomain page, thats why i do. also print out cards and keep them in your car, any time i see a nissan/infiniti that looks like someone interested in a forum, i hook them up with a card.... my way of giving back so to say.

I think that the A31 shared some of the same looks as the Maxima, but that was about all. The A31 Cefiro was a FR with an RB, but the A32's became FF. If you look at an A31 you can see some early to mid 90's Maxima in it.

I thought the first to body modles of the Maxima were FR. Have they always been an FF platform?
