I wonder if he opened the OEM headlight light assemblies with a heat gun and blacked em out except for the center reflector. I've heard of this being done before, although is difficult and may turn out like cr_p.

I smoked out the tails on my 92 green Q but got a "fix it" ticket so I polished it back off. Looked good for a lil bit though.

you guys asking about my head lights?

these?

i opened them up and blacked out everything, including the high beam. i have a 10k h.i.d kit on my low beam so i really wont need my high beam.

and i also smoked my tail lights and i have not once been bothered for them, but i did not smoke them dark at all. i also mod. them i think they look 15x's better!!!look...

Yeah I was guessing correctly lol. I have been thinkin about doing something like that to some headlights. From what I hear (on the miata forums) they are harder and harder to open as they age, since the glue/silicone/whatever hardens more and more. In other words, the easiest to open are "new" headlights including new or aftermarket lights. A heat gun and some force is required. Hmmm...

I don't have a Q right now, but I think I remember there being some metal clips also.. geez I gotta get another Q.

Soo you should start a thread and let us know how you did it. It's probably a (more) difficult process with the Q because of the glass versus ABS plastic (honda / mazda)

actually that's what i love about it. is that's its glass!!! they wont flex when your trying to pull them off.

and i have done lights off my old 2003 imprza wagon. i only did the backing on them and retro fitted jag h.i.d's and projectors, looky

my g50 is a 94 and it was by far easier just cuz of the glass. and yeah the metal clips just pop off with a flat head. not much to it.

One thing i will point out!!!!! the glass will chip, even break if your not careful. i broke the lens on my 88 MB 500sel glass headlights..... had to pay 175 for another USED one.

and i might do a write up on them along with the tail lights. i just need to get used to this whole forum thing. im a newbie.

Awesome! I really wanted to try a headlight mod when I had my 94, but didn't have it long enough to do much. (if anyone remembers, it got wrecked into the day after I modded the exhaust. )

Another cool and cheap trick is to put clear bulbs in the corners. It just takes a set of clear 1157's I think, and makes a big difference.

Here was my 94 with clears

I never went all the way to "Super Whites" in the corners but in my experience those bulbs have a blue tint when they are off and that bothered me. I did put Super Whites in the fog lights, which looks nice at night. You could find a closely matching color to your headlights on ebay for under $15.

Well, here she is...I've spent the last few days cleaning her up and getting the oil changed etc. as well as installing a K&N air filter and replacing a few bulbs

Let me know what you think...

Looks fantastic. You put on K&N cone filter? If so, I recommend ditching it. The consensus of the board is that they do more harm than good to the VH.

I bet if you were to drive around with the K&N for a bit and then switch back to the stock air box, you'd find it more responsive.

Or so I've heard.

17's, thanks!!! I also have 17 inch winter "sport" wheels (black with chrome beauty rims) I checked out your ride as well, love that VIP stuff!! How low is yours? Mine came lowered like that. I saw a faded "eichb" on one of the rear springs, but the shocks look stock. The drop must be professionally done, as I bottom out all the time, but my oil pan is still there.I feel the need to post more pics, but it took me a minute just to do those two. It was only my second time posting a pic on this site. Ill come back with some more this weekend. My citizen wristwatch looks like the clock on the Q!!!I know, Ive got it bad....

The wrong kind It was hard to get it all off. Next time I will be sure to use a wax that has a clear finish. It took me a minute to get it all off. I had the front end and the hood redone at a local shop for 300 bucks. My driver's side fender and blinker light were toast when I got it. Got em both on ebay for 200$. I got a quote from the same guy to do one of those silver flop paint jobs that change color for 2k. But I already had the front end done, and don't tell her, but she is getting too old to drop that kinda cash on the paint. I always dream of the VIP stuff on the front and back, those wheels, silver flop....totally sick!!!!

Nice looking Q. Great paint for 15 years old. Is that gray anthracite exterior? If so, it must be gray leather interior (same as mine). Base or active?

I have a few spare gray interior parts and lots of 94 gray leather from a part out (got heated seats) if you need something.

My gray interior is in excellent condition except for some scuffing on the upper driver's seat. No rips or tears. I keep gray bath towels on the bottoms year round to keep it that way. The previous seats were torn to shreds and I was using covers until I came across the parts car.

I've been in two small fender benders, one on the left side and one on the right, and have had the entire car painted by the insurance company except for the trunk and roof. It looks great.
