First I have to say I am tired of reviewers comparing this game to Fallout 3 and Mass Effect. Final Fantasy is a not an action RPG so if you want to hack, and shoot your way through levels this game is not for you.
I am about 6 hours into the game, so I guess I barely scratched the surface. So far it feels like an evolved FF game. As much as I miss the old school battle system FFX had, I can appreciate what Square did with this game. All the battles come fast and furious, you can no longer eat or drink while playing this game without putting it on pause. The stagger system is a new thing, it adds a little more strategy. Paradigms are just a fancy name for on the fly character class change. I guess this game is like Pokemon....you have to catch your Eidolons. j/k
my gripes so far:using Libra and Auto-Battle will select the best attack for you. -i feel I have been cheated the fun of figuring out what works best. When libra was used before it would give you a hint, but you still have to select the proper attack. Now you just use libra and auto-battle, lame. When your leader dies your game is over, really? I still have two left that can use phoenix down, they should be able to revive the leader. When i die, I deserve to go to my last save point, not to retry the same battle instantly, this takes away from the game as you are no longer worried about dying. In those regard the game experience could have been better, but what is there is worth playing. One thing for sure, don't expect the classic FF RPG.
FF will always have a certain charm.
