I just got a Toshiba HD-D3 HD DVD player from my wife as Christmas gift, I hooked it up to my hometheater, I really like it, I think is well worth it. My wife paid $185 in the local Costco, it came with 2 movies and the HDMI cable, it is pretty good deal.bembol wrote:Any here into High-Def (HD DVD and/or BD)? What do you think of it, worth the upgrade from DVD?
This is my other interest. Spent way too much upgrading my HomeTheater and lost by selling my 600+ DVD's for HD! bembols.tripod.com
they're both Hitachi. the guy at the store said something about, LCD has a quicker response time or something (i forgot exactly) and that LCD is better for games but plasma is better for watching movies. he said LCD, if you get close, the picture doesn't look good, you have to watch it from far but Plasma is different. im no expert in TVs though. so what are the pros and cons in LCD vs Plasma?edonissan13 wrote:whats up with people and damn plasmas<<
plasmas are lame you should throw yours away!unless its a pioneer or an panasonic
Why are you saying that HD DVD is not putting out 1080P? Where did you learned that?edonissan13 wrote:lolHd is not putting out 1080p silly'sits 1080i which is some what the same as 720p
get an lcdthey last longerno glarebrighter
plasmas are nice, but not as bright and you see a lot of glare
you cant view a plasma from an angleand lcd look perfect from an angle!
the only thing giving out 1080p is blue raydesertdragon wrote:

Besides, from a distances of 10 feet, I can bet anyone that he will not be able to tell the difference between 2 TVs, 1 showing 1080p and the other 1080i.
Very good point. But those hybrid players are not cheap.rjdmmfl1 wrote:Eduardo, I think I know where you're coming from. I do recall that back in 2005 when HD DVD and Blue ray were first breaking ground, that HD DVD players had a maximum 1080i output. As is the case with some lower grade HD DVD players today!

This player was one of the first generations of HD DVD out there! Blue ray disc players always had 1080p output (hence the heftier price tag).
I think everyone has made some good points! Especially about the fact that cable is broadcast in 1080i, and will most likely not change for a minimum of a decade or so. Also, the fact that 9.9 / 10 of us can NOT tell the difference between a 1080i and 1080p signal from viewing distance!
All in all, if anyone wanted to be really smart about it, you'd get one of the hybrid players that support BOTH HD DVD and BLU RAY DISC! That way, no matter which format loses, you still win!!
