It is official as of May 5th, 2016 that there is a voluntary recall to replace the timing chain.

http://www.infinitiusa.com/recalls-vin#/

Infiniti ID: P6305

Just set up mine for next week. They said it will take a full week to make the repair.

Yeah, we have been discussing it in the 2011 M56 Engine Noise thread. It's probably good you made a dedicated thread for it, though. Much easier for people to spot.

A week to finish huh, wow. I need to schedule mine for next month when my wife is out of town so I can use here car, assuming I get no loaner.

5.6L in various models (M56, QX56, etc). You can check by VIN using the link Biggie posted above.

Believe it is all of the M56s though. And is for the same years of QX56.

I missed that other thread.

Had others say on the FB page that only took them a day to complete, so we'll see how long it takes on mine, dropping off on Monday. Have to have a loaner.

Currently have a Q70 3.7 as a loaner since wife's QX56 had both Cats go bad. She is driving my M56S, I miss it. When parked beside each other noticed how much lower the M56S is compared to base 3.7 Q70. The Q70 is very soft/floaty feeling.

I have an M37 so maybe this doesn't apply but you would think the timing train assembly would be the same right

Both use timing chains but are not closely related engines; the VQ 3.7 is not based on the VK 5.6 or vice-versa. Also, the 3.7 is not known to experience the same issues that prompted Infiniti to issue a recall on the 5.6L timing chains and hardware.

Your dealership should furnish you a loaner, if you schedue your timing chain service (or any service for that matter) in advance. My dealership furnished me a new Q70L to drive while I had my timimg chain recall work done.

Yep, I was told I'd get a Q70 to drive while mine was there. Waiting for an actual date to get scheduled.

Thanks to "biggie" for posting this. :-)

My M56x has an appointment to "meet its maker" in 2 weeks.
They're gonna fix the timing chain (ID: P6305) and
also fix the fuel rail pressure sensor (ID: R1202) at the same time.

FYI, Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (ID: R1202) is a Voluntary Safety Recall = ITB12-010a (at no charge for P&L).

I didn't notice any other voluntary recalls that seemed important. Are there any?

I found 2 other Voluntary Service Campaigns that I'll probably ignore for now:
a) Call-Waiting Function Navigation Update = ITB11-046a (ID: P1235)
b) Bluetooth Sound Quality = ITB11047a (ID: P1239)

I'm having the following done if they are applicable:

o ITB11-047b (Bluetooth Sound Quality)
o ITB12-021B (for M37 ECU/TCU software but I seem to have some of the same lag and hesitation)
o ITB11-046a (Call Waiting Navigation Update)
o ITB12-010a/ITB15-017 (Fuel Rail Re-torque)
o ITB10-040 (Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor)

Does anyone know if this recall is the same as the timing chain whine tsb? I have heard conflicting information and my dealer in Canada does not have the parts list for the recall available yet.

I believe it should be the same as the whine is what most QX56 models experience...

Ilya, I can't find the TSB for ITB10-040 (Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor) anywhere. But I will ask Infiniti about it.
Is it a recall too? And is P&L covered?

Not sure what's covered but I found it on some site when searching for stuff to have them do while I'm there lol. Forget which site. I don't think it's a TSB...it's an ITB which I guess is a little different. Not sure what they pay for, etc.

This is for all 2011's and its just a reflash for the ECM. They check if it has the new flash, if not they flash it. It pays .4 hours.

  • Due to a software irregularity on certain model year 2011 M56 vehicles, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may incorrectly store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC P0133 and/or P0153) for the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor and turn ON the Service Engine Soon light on the instrument panel. To remedy this potential condition, Infiniti is conducting this voluntary service campaign to reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) at no charge for parts or labor.

Yeah I'll need to flash my UpRev back to my stock tune so it looks OEM to them.

If someone was to go in there with an edited ECU software, they'd deny warranty so quick it'd make our head spin hahah even though this issue is strictly mechanical.

Just for you UpRev guys, there's absolutely no way to tell what program is in the car. Don't worry about having it flashed back stock. The only way to tell what programming is in the car is by viewing the current ECM/TCM/whatever module is being programmed part number. I'd assume UpRev doesn't change part numbers.

A week seems excessive. Most of us can get them done in about a day and a half or so. And the M56's are much easier to do than the QX56's.

I dropped mine off on a late Wednesday afternoon, and it was done the next Tuesday around lunchtime. My understanding is that the front sub frame was dropped and driveshaft disconnected. There was about 58 parts total that was replaced, including the fluids (rear diff, transmission, transmission case since mine was an X, PS, engine oil and coolant) which is why mine took as long as it did. The video I saw of the QX56 being done didn't required the engine being dropped.

Wow, they change all those fluids? NICE! Even better lol. I just had mine done 15kmi or so ago but I didn't do the PS.

Steve, do you know if I brought in Mobil 1 and a filter they'd use that instead of Nissan genuine oil?

Since so many parts are changed compared to the service bulletin some one needs to ask if we have had the SB should we get the recall ? Or do we need the recall to be done?

Knew they were changing some fluids, I confirmed they'd have to change the oil since I was due for a change and would normally do it myself.

They had to change my appt to this coming Friday due to another M56 being there for the recall, shocking since there is only 1-2 other M56 in my area.

The cars/trucks that have had the service bulletin done are going to need to be redone.

Cool. I'll bring in my own stuff for that then, all others I let them use the OEM stuff.
