Hi Folks:
I know this is off topic, but since you guys are a helpful group, and I couldn't find an equivalent for Acura that has people actually responding, I thought I would post it here in case anyone has had this type of experience before.
We recently purchased a new 2007 Acura MDX for my wife (I have the G35). From the get go, the air conditioning vents in the rear of the car (one of the most important features for us since we have a baby in the back and it gets very hot here in DC), didn't work. We realized this the day after we purchased the car and contacted the dealer immediately to let them know. They said they would fix it as soon as possible. It took them a week to schedule us in, and the car has now been at the dealer for an additional week, and they say they are hoping to have the issue resolved by Monday next week (but not guaranteeing that it will be resolved). Apparently the issue is a short circuit somewhere that they have not quiet figured out yet.
I spoke to the sales manager and asked him to give us a different new car and take this one back and he said he will talk to the overall manager tomorrow, but since the car has already been titled in our name, that would be very difficult to do, and he suspects that instead they will compensate us in some way. Lemon laws in Maryland state that if the car is out of service for 30 days in the first 15 months or 15000 miles, it can be declared a lemon. We're at 18 days by Monday.
Problems happen, but cars should at least be tested by the dealership prior to being sent out. Frankly I'm a little worried that one electrical gremlin can also lead to others, and I really would love to see them just giving us a replacement vehicle. Course this would cost them a lot because they would have to sell this one as used since it's been titled, so I suspect that unless it really does sit at their service dept for 30 days, that won't happen.
Any thoughts or suggestions on the best approach to this, and/or what would be reasonable to expect as compensation from the dealer in this case?
Thanks a lotTamir
