I wanna get a second car and would like suggestions.

Although another 240 would be the prefered choice I need a more practical car. I rock climb so i was thinking a 4x4 jeep or suv. Something in the 3k to 5k price range.

thanks for any suggestions. sorry this is really off topic but this was the first large collection of car nuts i could think of. =)

when it comes to toyotas i don't think you can go wrong in years. plus for 5k you could probably get a 95 or around that.

I would just get an extended cab PU from them.

hmm my buddy picked up his 85 runner for 5500 for crawling you wanna stay 86 and older due to them haveing solid front axel , beat the snot out of this truck and the 22re is still going strong at 187k, in my opinon you cant go wrong with a soild front axel toyota

we have 8 jeep cherokkes in our club , they are very capable with the inline6 , go 1990 and newer on these to avoid the nasty peugot transmission

maine import needs to chime in , hes our other 4x4 guru

was there ever a solid front axel datsun pickup?

my buddy just picked up a 77 Ford Bronco, you know the full size ones with the removeable hard top...super red, super cool! He paid $500 for it and it's in mint condition. Interior looks brand new. Anyway, it's an old vehicle that can withstand time for peanuts.

the 4runners are really nice.

I have 2 friends and they both have a 4 runner (84 and 85). I would like to get one too but i think it would be kinda weird to get one when they already have them.. or maybe i could start a club?

anyways, the 77 bronco sounds interesting. what are a good year for them.

dude , a 4 runner is way more top heavy than a unibody cherokee or a wrangler . Now a trooper on the other hand , sneeze wrong and its gone

Also another thing to look at is a suzuki summersualt , one dude i ride with on 4x4 club runs has one , i think we have been up to 35 degrees in it and didnt flip, sure thought we were gonna . its a absolute hoot ont he trial , he has to be the most capable guy out there if it wasnt for the tired hamters fed by a webber , the webber sure did wake it up tho

at the speeds true rock crawilng and offroading occurs at rolling is a very gentle laughable thing

there are 8 cherokkes ,2 wranglers, one 4 runner, one summersault and a cople other turcks , i flipped my G20 before any of the offroaders did , drive it with some sense and you will be fine

My friend had an '87ish Nissan desert runner. I have never been more impressed with a little 4WD truck before. It had slightly larger wheels from a newer pathfinder, but other than that it was stock. That thing crawled up stuff I didn't want to walk up. I'm not really a truck guy, so I could be wrong, but a desert runner would be keeping it in the family at least. I must also add that you don't see many toyotas on the side of the road either.

err.. maybe how practical would it be to lift a taurus? just kidding

i think i will get myself a 4 runner. They seem to be really reliable.

On a side note, i have never really driven off road before and really don't know anything about it.. but in choosing a car should i look for one with a manual transmission or a auto.

and can anybody give me some sites with tips on driving off-road.

thanks er'body

in offroading im begining to warm up to the automatic , my buddys have stalled the engine in some rather precarious positions

but a 22re toyo with a automatic would be hard to find and even more underpwoered for the task , our M/T 4 runner has a hard enough time out there , couldnt imagine it with a automatic , really depends on how much torque you have to play with
