Instead of giving my 15 yr old MY vert I bought him this 1999 Tacoma PreRunner instead! Sorry for the nighttime pics.

2.7L I-4, 150 hp, 16 valves. 119,000 miles. Tons of fun.

you did good getting him the i4, the v6 is complete rubbish, i hate mine

great looking taco though!

midwestoffroad.com is your new toyota friend.

if he has any plans to jack it up, i recommend getting thicker torsin bars and beefer leaf springs, will give it an extra 2 inches, and still ride decent

Thanks for the site. I joined tacomaworld.com as well - not as good as this forum of couse but nice folks.

I've heard good things about the 2.7L engine. It's jacked up pretty much as it is and for a new driver that's as high as it gets.

More pics in the daytime next to the VERT I promise!

$5 says he'll get it stuck in a field at least once before he gets his diploma.

At least it won't be the vert.

LOL, I can remember the first time I got my girlfriend's car stuck when I was 16. It's gonna happen, I just hope it's not too bad. I'm still amazed I survived my adolescence.

Beautiful weather in NC today. I've got the vert all shined up, boot snapped on and leather burnin' my a$$!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Too hot today, nothing over 75 for me is good. But I do have my Vert out today as well, top will be down on the way home. But am glad for the parking garge and no leather today.

I just sold my 1999 Tacoma 4x4... TO TOYOTA

they had a buy back "program" (don't call it a recall) due to excessive rusting and frame perforation from a manufacturing defect.

it's only been gone 2 weeks and I miss it already, hopefully I'll be getting my check soon so I can buy something new, but I really can't seem to find anything to replace the tacoma...

you can learn more about the "program" here: http://www.tacomaterritory.com...95993

oh and Vb93Vert... the V6 wasn't availble in the regular cabs, only the larger cab models... so going with the the i4 was probably an easy "decision"

Toyota said the damage wasn't visibile but it was so sevear they wouldn't let me drive the truck home after the inspection and gave me a rental car.

does this look like a truck that's too rusty to drive?:

ah well... at least I'm getting a nice fat check out of it... I know you just bought it but I suggest you take the truck into Toyota to have the fame inspected... the last thing you'd want is for the thing to snap on your son.

If they do let you keep it, consider yourself lucky, these things will be rare before too soon.

also the two best Tacoma forums are http://www.tacomaterritory.com/andhttp: ... mtacos.com

have fun... even though Toyota bought back my truck I'm still looking at older Toyota Pickups... I've owned 2 already, they're so fantastic.

I heard that Toyota was buying back tacos with rust problems. The Taco forum said, "buy it anyway and sell it back to Toyota!" It's been a southern truck all its life so I'm hoping it's rust-free. We have a 96 4Runner that we've had since new and love it.

Man, this is really off topic now! NISMO VERT, VERT, VERT!!! Now we're back on track.

I did look for a Nissan Hardbody pickup but the taco was $4500 so I couldn't pass it by.

you need proof of ownership before the program start date to get then 150% KBB retail deal...

I've heard that if you bought it after the program start date they'll give you back what you paid though...

even if it's rust free, if you take it in to get inspected they essentially extend the warranty for 15 years, unlimited miles from the manufacturing date and if the frame rusts out during that time they'll buy it back... you can't lose.

i'm looking for a nissan hardbody right now to replace my taco but they're stupid hard to find and even harder to find in decent condition.

you got a fantastic deal on that pre-runner too I'm jelious
