So I've been drooling over this car for more than what, 4 years now? I found this on eBay today...

I'm sorry, but is that a $50,000 dealer mark up? I believe that window sticker says $123k... they auction is for $175k... I want one of these bad... but damn... $50k...

It is a phenomenal car--design and performance. You might want to check out a comparison test (on Edmunds insideline or Autoweek--forgot the source) that puts the Jeep SRT-8 up against the R8!

I must say, however, while the coachwork is not as impressive, the new Nissan GT-R outperforms the R8 at a substantial savings. All-wheel drive, dual clutch, more room, etc. With the right color minimizing the angularity of the GT-R that would be quite a ride for $70k, especially the view in the rear mirror of the R8 fading away.

Yeah, the GT-R is going to be impressive too. I was more concerned with that dealer markup though. That seems far too substantial for that car. I could see that from a Ford dealer on a GT, or Chevy on the new Blue Devil/SS/Z07/Whatever it's calls this week Corvette... but I would have never expected that from Audi.

The only disadvantage the GT-R has is that it's not quite as elegant as the R8, and it's front engine... plus I prefer the sound of a throaty, high-revving V8 6 inches behind you, versus a raspy, turbo 6 infront of you. But that's me.

I personally dont recommend that you go to Schaumburg Audi. Try The Audi Exhange in Highland Park and talk to either Jason Lee or Steve Rustakov. If you are serious about the car, that is. Tell them Dimitri sent you and you should be well under that auction price.Cheers

Haha I have a funny feeling you'd chime in on this topic ;-)

I would love to get an R8... it's gotta be one of the best mid-engine sports cars in years... if you guys watch Top Gear (and if you don't, you should... Monday nights on BBC America) Jeremy Clarkson, one of their hosts, has given up almost every other car he owns to get an R8... and if you watch the show, that says a lot.

Maybe in a couple years when they shove the Lambo V10 in the R8, I'll call you about the V8 version :-) you know, when you can get them for $70-$80k.

From what I remember I believe that the V8 will be the only option for the first year, then the V10 will be available. I could be wrong though. Unfortunately Im not with Audi any longer and havent had the chance to drive one but one of these days I should be getting a call from one of my buddies when they are doing a PDI road test and make sure that the tires can hold traction, LOLcheers
