'97 toy tacoma w/ fabtech front coilovers, and new *fancy* custom arched rear leafs to level the ride height. L.S. extreme shocks on rear, rollers are 32-11.50-15 BFG A/T on <stock alloys> because they look good, run true, and don't chrome peel or oxidize like cheapo aftermarket wheels. My tame truck.

'72 Bronco- modded beyond recognition. Everything I can think of has been replaced/upgraded. 4.88 gears, 31 spline axles, detroit locker, warn hubs, superlift coils/leafs, superlift braided brake lines f/r, superlift adj. track bar and adj. drag link, LS shocks, Energy Suspension bushings, J.D. front disc brake conversion($$$$), Centerforce DF clutch, new driveshafts f/r, floor shift conversion, PTO geardrive winch, RCI buckets, RCI harnesses, a buncha engine mods, tweaks, etc. Edelbrock intake manifold, heads, Motorcraft carb, hooker headers, dual flowmaster. All engine peripherals replaced, new alternator, new p/s pump, fuel pump, new starter, relocated battery, new fuel cell, new body panels...fenders, grille, etc. Painless Wiring complete harness. Hard top, soft top, bikini top, J.D. prerunner bumpers f/r, with warn 8000i and two fatty PIAA offroad lights mounted on prerunner front bumper. 33" super swamper radials on 15x10 ultra 64.

Future mods will be J.D. 4 core radiator, AtlasII t-case with NVG4500 five speed w/ overdrive, and some decent paint.

Since high school senior year, I think '96. It really needs some more body TLC, just too busy to play with it. So there my baby sits...

I'm done with trucks and off-roading though. I've also got a '00 Honda Rancher atv, sitting in the garage collecting dust. You get to the point when you have so many toys, and no time to play, that it just gets old. Then you find the weeks going by, and it's all you can do to just go out there and spend an hour or two starting all your toys up and runnin them down the street... the fascination fades eventually.

It sounds like a Killer idea. The Suzuki Samuri has a cult-like following in the offroading world. A great platform on which to build a seriously devilish tool of hooliganism. The aftermarket is starting to embrace the Samurai more and more, so bombproof parts wont be hard to find. Whatever 4x4 you DO end up buying, if you're gonna mod the holy hell out of it, plan on keeping it for a very long time. Just like with cars, all the parts we buy for our trucks do not appreciate in value. So you've got to be willing to sacrifice all the money you put in. Kinda hurts to think about it like that....

My advice to you is, buy a "project" 4x4 now, but make sure to keep it reliable....only doing basic mods that will still allow you to get around town and not break any vehicle laws. Then, down the road when money is coming in and you've got cash to spare, buy yourself a very good, very reliable truck. Keep the truck as your daily driver, and park the project vehicle. Then if you need to haul big parts, of even tow your project, you've got a solid reliable truck to do everything AND get you to and from the trail.

Kind of a long-term idea, but it works well for me. I can still drive the Bronco on the streets, but the drive to and from the trails would be hell on the vehicle. It's to the point where it's best work is done offroad. My toyota v-6 can tow my bronco(toys have excellent towing capacity for their size) on a trailer. ....Wish I woulda gotten a bigger utility truck, but that's another story.... Anyways, that way I can absolutely beat on the bronco in the mud, and I don't have to worry about limping it home or paying for a tow truck if stuff breaks.
