I have a 95 Q4life and like a lot of you the dash and door lights are going out. I have read the threads on where to get the lights (I want blue) but how many do I need for the dash. Any guesses. Q45Tech I live in Atlanta and I would love for you to have a chance to take a look at my Q for a few maintenence issues.

Has anyone done the instrument/dash light replacement before? I know someone here has done it b/c you know as well as I do that the lights on Infiniti/Nissans seem to go out quite frequently. I have done the lights on a nissan before but my Q is no Nissan and I would like to know what I am getting into before I do it. Please help

I wouldn't say the go out frequently. My 94 still has all but one working just fine. There was a thread in the past week or so in the q45 forum. Take a look around.

Yep I've done it a couple times. You need 3 wedge bulbs like the ones in the side markers, doors, and floor lights for the instrument cluster. Make sure you get good high quality LED lights.

Those should work perfect and give you that soft white lexus feel. I am ordering these soon.

Won't those LED lights burn out when connected to a 12V? So the ones in the gauge cluster use the #194 size lights and there are (3) of those? How many of the little ones that go in the doors, shift lever, and climate controls do I need. I dont have a problem with buying more than I need b/c I know they will go out too but I just need to know how many. I looked for a thread of someone explaining how to go in the dash but I havent found any. Again, my Q is not a Nissan like I had to do before so I want the dash to look like it did b4 I open her up.

I used 12 Volt Blue Super Bright LED's for my Door and Floor Lights.

But not the dash.

Most car Audio/Mod places carry the 12 Volt Leds

I think ozzie!'s thread is the best. Have you read it?:

There's alot more than 3 bulbs in the gauge cluster. I pulled some at the boneyard and was surprised at how many there are.

As far as the instrument cluster, yes, those fit perfect and will not burn out. They are designed to work specifically with 12v car systems. They will work in any large type wedge base I know for a fact.

As far as illuminating the cluster itself there are only 3. If you want to change your warning lights or turn signal lights also (no reason to anyway) then yes there are a lot more.

I noticed on a previous thread that you had gotten some LED lights. What sizes did you have to get and where did you get them. I don't want to have to solder anything. I was thinking a/b just buying OEM from IoS and just removing the rubber piece and just painting them to get the blue color that I want. I have already replaced the door courtesy lights, under dash courtesy lights, and dome light. I just want the blue color on my door light switches, shift lever light switches, and the instrument panel. In a nutshell I want the same color that our HVAC and radio controls are standard all over the car.

You've done some searching and have probably come across this pic showing an option for replacement bulbs. The stealership doesn't sell all the bulbs and in some cases you have to buy the whole component, i.e. cruise control switch to get it's bulb.

Since you have a 95Q it's pretty easy to get to the bulbs in the center console window switches and the door mounted controls. On the 90-93 the bulbs are soldered into a lot of the switches so they're tough to replace. You should be able to buy the bulbs in the instrument cluster from the stealership since most are a bit larger than the others just mentioned. The Radio Shack bulbs are a cheap and reliable alternative.

Do they come with the rubber cover on them? I should be able to paint those and put them in and hopefully they will look good. Anyone know of a paint product that I could use. I even heard of using nail polish to get the color.

I've only purchased the trip odometer lights ($6/ea) from the stealership and found the packaged lamps from Radio Shack after I couldn't get a bulb for the cruise control switch from Infiniti. The Radio Shack bulbs (2 for $1.29) work for all the applications I mentioned in the previous post but you've got to wrap the legs around the receptacle and cut them to length (easy).

As far as tint, the door mounted window control bulb would be the easiest to experiment with. One or two coats of nail polish should work great. I use a home made plastic screwdriver (see pic) to remove and install the bulbs. You won't burn a fuse if you forget to turn your lights off while adjusting a bulb to the proper fit.

Great stuff. How many odometer bulbs did you have to buy? How did you get into the dash and console area. I know how to get to the door lights but if you know of how to properly get into the dash/console/radio area I have a bunch of lights that are out in my HVAC area.
