OEM Shock lifespan

At what point do I need to replace these? I am about to each 60K, and am noticing some extrashockwaves from bumps after the front end hits them. What brand? How much? Ugh. more maintenance.

Try bouncing your car on each corner. Push down once and once the corner comes up again push down again and release it. If it comes back up and levels instantly then your shocks are fine... If it comes up and down again like a wave, then it might be time to replace them.

My front struts recently leaked all the oil at just under 70k miles. . I was quoted 832 to fix this.

I went to 4x4parts.com and found EVERYTHING I need for under 300. . and it's not difficult to replace a strut. . so I'll just go ahead and do it.

OUCH! I just had my front brakes resurfaced and the truck inspected for it's 60K miles, I am surethe dealer would have advised if they found anything re: leaking oil.

Well, my dust boots were gone. . probably damaged 'em someway :o Oh well... time to upgrade!!!

FYI: I had posted a thread about this before where I was quoted 832 for the job, parts included... I just confirmed that I can do it all for 380, including install. . I'm disappointed at my mechanic. . my price includes KYB GR2 struts and two new mounts.

Dust boots, hah. I haven't run boots on any shocks I've had and never had a problem.

Well, I'm grasping at straws since I don't know of anything else that would've done it. Maybe just my luck. . the struts had a (presumably) easy life. My 240sx had the originals at 150k, and then I sold it.

....

come to think of it tho, I never had boots on those either. . haha
