I need to replace one of the O2 sensors as well as a knock sensor. Mechanic is telling me that his normal parts supplier can't get them, so he would have to go to the dealership. I've found After-market parts and gotten prices from the dealership.

Anyone have any opinions on whether or not I might run into problems using After-market parts??

Are there some brands to stay away from??

Finally, as an afterthough, is the replacing of those sensors something that could be tackled on my own? I've done some minor stuff on other cars, and I can follow directions, but I haven't got anything other than normal household tools.

I would suggest going to the library and checking outa Chiltons or Haynes repair book for your car first andread how to fix it.

Then consider what tools to buy.

I dont really know what kind of O2 sensor or knocksensor to buy-whether to use OEM or not.Common sense tells me Bosch is good quality butseveral threads on this website say not to use Boschspark plugs

O2's can be purchased through http://www.sparkplugs.com. Get the ones with the OEM clip on the end, not the universal.

Try one of our dealer sponsors for the knock sensor.

Directions on how to replae both can be found in the how-to sticky at the top of the forum.

My 95 Maxima uses a three wire type

You should replace it with a three wire type
