Hi everyone,

My question is just that. Does it matter if my waterpump is OEM or aftermarket? Since it is just a belt, how about my timing belt. Should my timing belt be OEM or aftermarket?

Will it make a difference if I use an aftermarket wiper relay, or should I just stay with OEM?

Also, what should be done when getting the timing belt changed? Is it just the belt and water pump or should other things get changed?

I have a 93 J30 with 117000 miles on it with a new (rebuilt OEM alternator) and thats about it.

Thanks in advace everyone,

Geoff.

Since a broken timing belt would/could destroy the interference engine that would be up to you...........water pumps are less destructive but a EARLY leaker is economically wasteful.

You won't be saving much going aftermarket timing belt and water pump, may be $30 -$40 the most. You know how long the OEM parts is going to last, do you know about the aftermarket parts? I Won't. That is the final answer.

Water pump question, wondering if any J owners have seen this.

If I like pull my 94 J out of the driveway and park in the street I sometimes get maybe a Tablespoon of water seeping from what I assume is a weep hole on the pump. But if I drive to work or store Blah Blah Blah it doesnt drip a drop ?Only when I start the motor and shut off within a minute or so. ???

Thanks everyone, but I still would like to know if that is all I need when doing a timing belt overhaul (1. water pump and 2. a timing belt)?.

I am going to order my parts from Infiniti of Scottsdale, AZ and I would like to know what I need to order because I found a shop that would do the job for 175.00 USD if I buy the parts.

So right now all I know is that I should order a timing belt and a water pump.

Anything else I should order?

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Geoff.

Hey, $i175 is a good price. If you don't mind paying another ~$130 or so, getting a new belt tensioner wouldn't be a bad idea, other than that you should be good to go.

Actually, from Infiniti of Scottsdale, AZ, I got the whole kit:

1 Timing belt 1 Water Pump, 4 Camshaft seals, 1 Crankshaft seal, 3 Drive belts, 1 Tensioner, 2 Tensioner springs, 2 bypass hoses, and, 1 Thermostat

All for 325.00 USD.

I figured that the Tensionor, the Water pump, and the Timing belt would be neer 300.00 USD anyway, so I bought the whole kit. I just hope that the person doing the job will actually change all of the old parts with the new parts.

Thanks everyone for everything,

Geoff.

P.S.

If anyone could, please help me with my Wiper INT problem. The INT doesn't work anymore, as well as the automatic on when I use the windshield washer doesn't work either.

Thanks again.
