just looking for a hp range for stock head gaskets, ie the graphite with steel layers inside. i was thinking about switching over to mls gaskets but the oems have been great to me. just wondering if there are still some tts out there using oem type gaskets making good power. im in the 500 range and they are holding up great.

you're fine, sz uses the stock oem hg in their 900rwhp 300zx.
i don't think hg's have hp range, do they? i thought the headstuds play more of a role in clamping force?

Yeah they don't really have a hp range, but I remember on my old merkur they use to go around a certain hp range. What really kills head gaskets is bad tuning and yes head lift when you are making big power.

Just trying to figure out why everyone switches to mls, I know thy are supposed to be more reliable. My orig oems had over 160k on them, by that time the engine needed a rebuild anyways.

oem hg's > most mls ones like cometics, any day of the week. cometic's have been known to leak, and oem hg's are much more forgiving in terms of sealing to the heads and engine.

i wouldn't say everybody switches to mls hg's, they're like bov's or fmic's, an unnecessary upgrade (if they're even upgrades to begin with), really.
