Question for the group:

does anyone know if the OEM Nissan/Infiniti engine air filter is oil-based?
just had my oil and filter changed at 75k, and the Infiniti service consultant told me, "I see you have a non oil-based engine air filter. We've had a lot of problems with cars that aren't using the manufacturer filter which is oil-based."

I have the read the threads about K&N filters and the whole non oil-based vs oil-based filter debate...not trying to stir up the pot, but can't oil droplets screw up your MAF sensor?

just was wondering if the OEM filter is oil-based...'cause if it is then should I be using an oil-based filter? :wtf2:

OEM Filters are dry as said above.

Oil based filters, in my experience, are a waste of money. I bought a K&N for my 99 Maxima a few years ago and within 2 months had to get a new MAF. The oil visibly soaked the sensor and it shorted. Cost me $90, not to mention the $50 for the filter.

I figured it as much...prolly a newbie Service Consultant-I'd never seen him there before.
But he ought to get his facts straight before recommending or not recommending maintenance to customers.

Will be getting OEM filters soon-just checking on prices (shipping costs can be a deal breaker)

thanks, guys.

As Forrest Gump Said: Stupid is as Stupid does. Stay away from that individual which unfortunately represents that Infiniti dealership. Never heard such nonsense. I order Infiniti air filters from Infinitipartsusa. If there oil based, I cant tell and really don't care.
