Just wanted to doublecheck with you guys before the head gets shimmed the wrong way: the exhaust cam is the one with the orange stripe on it, and the intake cam has the green stripe? Its always this way?

-Use two exhaust cams (the ones with the orange paint on them) from a 91-93 KA24DE 240sx (don't argue these are the ones you need, forget about the Altima myth).

our general rule of thumb is to NEVER EVER trust the paint on the cams.

but on every S13 KA (excluding 94's) ive opened up the orange is on the exhaust, but i've heard of other situations too.

if possible just double check the pin position and the first lobe position

orange=hotgreen=cold

Orange is warm color, while green is cooler. This is really stupid sounding reasoning, but you won't forget.

Well, then if one is not to trust the cam colors, what is a sure fire way of identifying your cams?

Care to explain where one finds a DOHC degree wheel, and do you have a manual to tell me where lift is measured from?

DOHC degree wheel? Don't you mean crankshaft degree wheel?Summit racing comes to mind......I would suggest following the FSM.As far as measuring lift I just take them into my machinist (at Tito's machine shop) that does my regrinds, so i really couldn't give you the answer to that one...... Have a hard time figuring what cams go where sometimes, easy refrence.

OOPs failed to mention lift of valve which isn't determined till after I tell him what the specs are for shimming on my buckets, usually stock.

You shouldn't even need a degree wheel. One cam should have lobes that are noticably larger.

Correct...

I've posted this MANY times in the past:

S13 cams: GREEN intake, ORANGE exhaustS14 cams: ORANGE intake, GREEN exhaust.

To tell which is which...Identify the INTAKE cam, then look at color.

Intake cam has the dowel pin at the 12 o'clock position when the #1 cam lobes are facing straight up.

It is supposed to take a special CAMSHAFT degree wheel for DOHC, the one summit sells is made by Mr. Gasket for Cam in Block designs.
