The reason i'm wondering what the dimensions for a nav unit are is that I want an aftermarket nav unit but I only have the non nav OEM bose system with the dual(auto) climate controls. From what I've read all over the internet, the cars with auto climate control are going to have a big problem with the spaces on the side when installing a aftermarket nav and using the OEM faceplate from nissan for the stock nav. I really would like a aftermarket nav but if it means having like an inch of space its going to look trashy. I don't want to install a metrakit faceplate with the new nav cause it doesn't match the trim. So if anyone knows the dimensions so I can try to find a big enough nav that wouldn't give me this problem or know of a nav like this, I would really appreciate it.

Pretty sure there is no navigation head unit that size. You would have to make something custom. Or a carputer (which would also technically be custom). I don't have the dimensions on hand, but here's your standard aftermarket double din head unit with the trim piece for the navigation:

hey thanks zilla you helped me out on this one. I thought there was no hope for a aftermarket system in my car but you helped more than you can imagine.

I used the textured plastic from an extra trim piece I bought... the one under the HVAC controls... looks factory...

No problem. BTW, here's the ebay link to the cover piece I mentioned on the other post.

do you lose the functionality of your steering wheel; volume/ call and end call buttons, with aftermarket nav? i would really like to do a navigation install, but do not want dead buttons on my steering wheel.
thanks

You lose the steerling wheel controls unless u buy a add on adapter and program it.. I did it with my altima 4 door just have to solder on a few omhs converts and your good to go..

My only complaint was that there was a slight lag time from using the controls and actually making the change on my radio sometimes it even got lagged up like a computer low on ram then all of a sudden everything would open at once.. So at times i changed the station it didnt change so i did it again and again finally it change 4 times in a row lol..

Now sure if it had to do with the adapter I bought or the fact that my aftermarket radio was a clarion vx1000 not the top of the line.. But main point is you can get the controls to work

You will lose the phone buttons. As far as I know, there is no adapter that works with them. Source, volume up/down and track up/down can be made to work.
