I watch my odo/trip pretty close as I like to have an idea of the MPG I am getting with each tank. Tonight coming home from work I noticed they quit working. Anybody have this happen and if so how do I fix it? It is analog, not digital.

This happened to my Volvo, but I think the same concept may apply here. There's a plastic gear that just gets weaker over time until a tooth breaks off and the whole unit quits.

They had a replacement gear, but I think you might need the whole unit with these cars.

Hopefully this helps.

Btw, whats your average mpg since you did your manual swap?

I reset the trip, and all is working fine??? I am getting right at 30 mpg since the swap, about 3 mpg better then with the auto.

One of the gears probably got stuck then.

And about the 30 mpg, if you are really getting that, AWESOME!

However, something I've noticed w/ older cars - the speedo is off quite a bit (especially once you get in higher miles) anywhere 4-10%, which adds up during the course of emptying a tank of gas.

If you are verifying these miles w/ a gps & still getting 30, congrats.

That being said, I'm getting approx 25-26 mpg mostly highway in my auto ka-t vert w/ about ~150lbs of equipment & a 100lb passenger (gps & google map verified), so I suppose your 30mpg calculation isn't too far off your exact mpg's.

LOL, it might not be exact 30 mpg, but I am 51 years old and drive like it! I am in no hurry, and my racing days are long behind me!

24853 is bad. It's either bad gear or bad motor on 24853. I have a spare, so I can mail it to you if ou want. Problem is you will have to go through a lot of trouble removing the cluster. You have to follow these steps to take the cluster out.

Side door sill->Foot rest(better to remove)->Hood opener cable->knee panel->Remove key ring cover & turn signal switch trim->Steering column covers->Remove 2 bolts on steering column->Pull out the trim->Unplug switches->Remove trim->Remove 3 screws that hold the cluster. I think that's it.
