I'm not sure if this should go into the mechanics section, but I don't think so. My friend with is putting a laptop into his car, which he made a program for to calculate his speed/distance traveled using the pulses sent from the transmission to the speedometer/odometer. He has a Honda Civic, and he believes his ppm (pulses per minute) is 4000, he can't find out for sure, because he doesn't have an FSM, and the Honda dealership say they don’t know and that only people in Japan somewhere do. I want to do a similar thing, I have a 1990 240SX, and I was wondering where I can find out the pulses per minute my transmission crates. I have a 5 speed manual. Does someone know the number, perhaps by having installed a cruise control unit by themselves, or done a similar procedure? The search function yields nothing on this topic, so I must rely on you guys, or perhaps a link you can give me. Thanks in advance,

I will be talking to Nismo in the morning, and I'll ask for you.

Aries, thank you so much. For some reason I don't think I'd have the guts to call Nismo Japan and ask them that question. But in case I get my balls back someday...what number do I call? Do you speak Japanese? Or do most of the guys there speak english, because too many guys like us kept calling and askign silly questions? Btw, r u "related" to Aries pistons? I think it's one of the greatest ideas to put a small block in a 240, because they seem like a good fit, both size and weight wise. How much does the LT-1 weigh, around 300lbs? And since I'm asking questions, why did u go automatic vs. manual? Is it harder to fit a manual 5spd for the LT-1 into the 240 body?

p.s.: In case all of those questions have been answered in some other thread, please post a link to it :)

the LT1 weighs in at just under 50 lbs more than th stock KA24DE.The thing about going automatic is that manual transmissions tend to have a low breaking point (usually about 500hp) and an automatic can be built to handle much more. Also the automatic has all of the shifting done in a forward or backward pull. There is little oportunity to miss a gear, and no clutch to worry about. the 6 speed from a corvette is exactly the same size as my automatic, so the swap would be extremely simple.

As for Arias, no I am not related to their owner. I am however a dealer for their pistons and have met with Nicole Arias personally to discuss a deal on SR20 pistons for Nico.
