Well, I did the odometer fix as stated in the FAQ and it still doesn't work. I used super glue in the shaft of the servo to glue the gear on the shaft like it said to. When I put it all back together, it didn't work and the odometer hasn't worked since. I was going to clean the contacts but there so small I didn't really know how to clean them. My speedo works all the time and is accurate, so I know it has to deal with the servo. Should I just replace the servo with a junkyard piece? Thanks.

I had the same problem as decribed in that FAQ. What I did to fix the problem was replace the speedo unit. I tried all those fixes and it was driving me crazy, I just happened to have an extra cluster lying around so I swapped the speedo out and wa-la, it started working and has been since. I am not sure exactly what broke in the speedo, but it must have been some sort of connection that was loose and causing an intermittant signal or something. This seems to happen a lot, maybe there is a manufacturing defect somewhere.

Anyone know if you can get a new speedo at the dealership? If no, then will a SOHC speedo work?

speedos between SOHC and DOHC are compatable. I am running a 90 speedo in my 93 now, so I know it works. You *should* be able to get one from the dealer, but it will be very expensive.

I busted out my multimeter I found it to register on the black&red wires (registering 198.3 ohms). Then, I put the negative probe and put it on the green wire and yellow, and green and red wires; bothed showed ohms. Now, is the servo bad or the speedo (which always works) bad?

I found this thread http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=90813 (yes, I posted w/o searching first ) which helped me get readings. Thanks guys.

I'm not sure which wires he was talking about. To test my servo motor I made a little black mark on it with a sharpie and drove around with it hanging out of my cluster so I could see it turning (it turns pretty slow.)

Do you think it'll be beneficial to just replace the servo and speedometer with a working one? Maybe I can find a board member that has a working one and want to sell it (then they can sell the tach to someone else).

That would clear up any problems I can think of. 'Cept for a wiring problem between sensor and speedo, but that doesn't seem likely. If you get the speedo, I would go ahead and get the odometer assembly as well. You can scavenge parts off it. Or if you can't get your old one to work, you can reset it to your milage and swap it in (you can turn it pretty fast by hand.)

I think I have an extra S13 cluster sitting around that I could give you for cheap. I'm even coming home (Santa Cruz) in a few weeks if you don't want to pay for shipping. Email me if you're interested gabossie(at)cs.com

I'm way NorCal (past Sac) so shipping would be the best bet. What year is it from? I know that if its for a 91-94 you can sell the tach, and I'll take the speedo and the servo. Do you know for a fact that the speedo and servo work in that cluster? I'm interested, give me a price if they work (please be nice ).

I have a 93 and I am running a 90 speedo with the 93 servo. i can assume from this that all those parts are compatable for all S13s. The only difference in the 89-90 and 91-94 speedos in the design of the scale. One goes to 110 the other to 115, but if you examine it, the markings are just in different places, they are electrically the same.

I don't remember what year it's from, it's been sitting around here for quite awhile. I'll dig it out though and take a look, see if I can figure it out. I don't even remember what it's worth, maybe $15 or so? hit me up on email.
